I have both the professional paints from Schmincke so I was able to compare those to this set of 12 Akademie set and it was hard to tell the difference between the two. You get 12 great colors that easily mix and have beautiful sheerness and can show some granulation. This slim tin is so fun and easy to toss in the side of my bag for a good kit that takes up little space on the table while still offering you lots of mixing space. You do get all the information for each color along with pigment numbers and lightfastness. It’s Schmincke so I would expect nothing less. The tin is solid and has room to toss in slender small paintbrush to make this a grab and go. At the time of this review it was on sale with a 12 percent coupon so with prime it would only be $48 which is $7 dollars cheaper then when I bought it. Having this set has made me consider another larger Akademie set if I found a great price because the paints are lovely to work with.

It’s creamy and easy to mixed! Light fast quality paints

Glad to find it at Amazon. The price is a tad higher considering it’s an Akademie palette.But cute and special, arrived perfectly intact.

I enjoy the portability of this palette and all the mixing space. I did take out the metal half pan holder and using removable picture putty I can place 22 half pans in the palette (or 11 full pans, or combo of half and full pans). Makes it even more versatile. It is a well made palette.

The paint is lovely as you might expect. I also love the unique, sleek design of the tin. However, it does not close properly. Really, it doesn't close at all. I push it shut and it pops back open making it useless as a travel kit unless I get a strong rubber band or something. For the price especially, I expect better quality. Also, just a pet peeve that it doesn't come with a swatch sheet.

I debated buying the granulating sets because there were specific colors I wanted but not all so I was excited to see the 12-pan set which had most of them. That said, there were some: Desert Yellow and Volcano Brown barely had any pigment while Volcano Yellow and Volcano Red were extremely hard to re-wet and took several layers to show up. I don’t know if there’s a problem with the pan form—maybe it’s better to get these in tube form—but that decreased the value for the price for me. Instead, they should’ve included some other ‘fan favorites’ like Haze Pink and Tundra Green.
