A heavy-duty, well-made optical tool
This is an update to a review I wrote back in 2018. My 5-star rating of the device remains unchanged, but please see my additional comments regarding battery life and replacement, inserted below. This metal jeweler's loupe is substantially-constructed, enclosed in a nice carrying case, with an optional neck cord, legible instructions, and a lens cleaning cloth. I especially like the bright, white LED's, which I will use for examining the cutting edges of tools I am honing. The magnified image is quite clear, and suitable for my purposes. I cannot determine the composition of the lens material.A 40X magnifier has a narrow field of view and a shallow focus, and the LED lights are properly angled to illuminate dead center in the magnified image. There is also a UV LED for gem and currency inspection, but I am unfamiliar with the detailed capabilities required for such purposes. The sliding switch is nicely "snappy." The "off" setting is in the center position, making it difficult to confuse the choice between white and UV, as well as difficult to turn on the lights inadvertently. I had no idea how long the batteries will last, so I obtained extras.Laying in a supply of extra batteries is a good idea. The loupe requires three LR-1130 button batteries, and their lifetime is short. The user can extend this by religiously turning off the LED's after each use, but this is sometimes difficult to remember while immersed in a project. So it helps to lay down the loupe with the LED's facing upward. But even as the batteries wear down, if you turn off the LED, the intensity returns to normal, albeit for shorter and shorter time periods. But the real problem arises with leaving the light on constantly until the batteries wear out completely, as occasionally they swell up inside the battery chamber. When this happens, it becomes difficult to unscrew the battery cover. The vendor-provided tool for this purpose is made of soft metal, and the tabs on mine bent irreparably. I found a small pair of needle-nosed pliers whose points were small enough to fit into the holes in the battery cover. I could then open the pliers points to the proper width to serve as a spanner wrench. I also believe that the user could make a suitable tool by driving properly-spaced small nails/brads into a hardwood handle. Now that I have used this loupe for over three years, I still believe that it is an excellent value for $15.00 (slightly higher in 2022).

Handy
Nice and handy loupe. I bought it to check the edge of my knives, and it does its job very well. I can see if tiny bits of the blade were chipped off, and also the scratch pattern after sharpening on a rough stone

Big, seems good, I like the light.
Seems good for geology. I like the light, and it is bigger than many loupes out there. The quality isn't stellar, though. It is good as a EDC beater tool, but not great. I'm not sure how long it will hold up.

Excellent for a field geologist or amateur!
I have purchased this product multiple times. First for my husband, then for my children. It’s very well put together. It can survive some field work. The case can conveniently attach to a belt loop or backpack. The magnification is great as are the light settings. My kids love to look at rocks, shells, insects, and other samples using their lenses.

Awesome little lens
I found this a great little product for informal needs such as inspecting stamps, plants, or even simple curiosity to inspect an old trinket under the blue light to see if anything interesting illuminates! The loop works wonderfully, and I have small fingers— it is still easy to hold and manipulate. I really enjoy the weight of it in the hand, having a nice heft to keep things steady while peering through the lens. I had never used a jewelers loop before and will say it took a little practice and time to become accustomed to using it. It’s not like a magnifying glass! You have to get as close to it and what you’re looking at instead of pulling away yo zoom— more of a push in zoom! I really love that it comes with its own case, too. It stays nice and safe so what I see through it remains clear.

Great loupe!
I ordered this because it was recommended - and because Princess Bride is one of my all time favorite movies :-)! This loupe definitely exceeded my expectations. It is heavy, high quality, comes with a great little sturdy carrying case, and has both LED and UV lights. A great value for the money. If you're looking for a loupe, this is definitely the one to order.

Light is too weak for hunting coin errors
Love the magnification, a little stronger would be more helpful. Light is just too weak to be very useful. The one I carried in my purse, in its case, completely fell apart. I opened the case and it fell out in pieces. I’l looking for more powerful, more light and better quality. This one is actually great for kids.

Cheap quality, not worth spending the money.
Rough metal edges, suppose to get a EV travel caae, but sent me a cheap plastic case instead. Cheap make in China product, poor quality. I will return the item, not worth the money.

If you want the magnifier with an addition of UV light, it is not a good choice
UV light dies just after a few uses. I bought two magnifiers and it has happened to both of them.
