1st day of easy installation and so far so good. I’m not sure if I exceeded the tension recommendations but one hinge replaced in the middle of a 36x80 steel door with three hinges seems to be sufficient enough to auto close. I’m sure if I replace another or all of them, the auto close would be better. In fact, you should replace as many as possible so the load is not all on one hinge. Size is equal to original hinges on brand new door. Appearance is not a concern for me. They are affordable for this convenience. Installation or replacement was very easy. No need to take door off the frame completely, as long as one hinge is replaced at a time. One of the only downfalls is that my original door hinges contain some tabs that help keep the door secured an extra bit. I’m going to find another kind that has the same security feature. I bought these to keep my front door shut when my dogs came in, we like to leave the door unlatched so the dog can push it open- but this always meant we had to close it behind them. I adjusted the springs so that it just rests against the latch when opened softly. If you wanted you could tighten up the adjustment so the door fully shuts when opened. The actual adjustment process is kind of weird. You basically just wind the spring up and pin it in place. I’m not sure I could think of a better way to do it, so I won’t complain. Once it’s adjusted to your liking you never have to touch it again anyways. This was just what we needed and it worked perfect.

When I say "easy to install" I mean the instructions are easy and general installation was easy. It takes some might to crank these things to work well and fully close the door. That's by design... and that's physics. These are well made, high quality materials, the proper hardware is included, and the instructions are clear and concise. Tip: use both the Allan key and little wand to open further as it gets harder. Leveraging the two put pressure on both and lessens the risk of damaging the door/frame. These are fairly priced at $11/each. We put them on garage man doors (to the outside and to the house), and closet doors. Be sure an check the number of holes your hinges take. Heavy and external doors are usually 4 screws per side, interior doors are usually 3 (even solid core)... but check. You can always use the rounded corners hinges, but square corners can only be used to replace square cornered hinges. Extra pins included. Save those. I'd also save the screws as they're nice quality... use them if your original screws are lousy. Toothpicks are the trick if you need more traction in older screw holes (do NOT use glue).
