Schwalm embroidery pattern book Paperback – October 1, 2017

Nice book. Rather small, but seems to include a lot. Needleweaving hems, designing, filling stitches, examples, patterns. I look forward to learning this beautiful technique.

I've developed a passion for whitework, and have been hunting out details on variations. As I haven't found much about Schwalm, I originally bought a French copy of this book and loved it. The text is minimal, anyhow, and most everything can be figured out from the excellent photos and patterns provided. But when I found the English version, I thought it might be helpful. And for $10, the price was right, too. So I now have both versions. The only downside of the English version is that the translating isn't the greatest, but again, you can figure out most of it.And truly, when you look at the beautiful examples and clear patterns, the text just doesn't matter much. My photos aren't the greatest, but I wanted to give an idea of what's inside.

I am needleworker and really enjoy good books and this is a good white work book.

I have been working with Schwalm whitework embroidery for over 9 years now, and I am always interested in any new book on the subject. The low price of this book prompted me to take a look at it.This book is very basic: the layout is not impressive (all the text is centered and there are many misspellings), the instructions are sparse, and the subjects are introduced in a haphazard way (e.g., from a barely half page on materials, the text jumps to hemming on the very next page). Unless you are an experienced needleworker, you might have difficulty working the projects (for example, there are no instructions on how to begin or end threads). There are some pretty stitch combinations, "weaving pattern fillings," and typical Schwalm designs, and I will keep the book for these reasons.Edith Bloecher and Luzine Happel are both German women knowledgeable about Schwalm whitework.

Very Nice with pretty Patterns...

The book has some interesting examples of common motifs but the translation is poor from the original language. It looks like it is a literal translation. Additionally, the pictures are black and white and the instructions are vague. There is a presumption that the reader is familiar with the techniques.

This is a great book with many projects to work on. The main project is a sampler in a box. It is a great way to try this form of embroidery. I wish there were some information about where to get the supplies especially the thread

Good charts and instruction

The many incomprehensible mistakes are totally unacceptable. One gets the impression that the author does not give a damn about her readers. I ordered this book with great expectations, but no book by her will ever be seen on my shelves again. An author should respect her readers, clearly she does not.
