Created by former Doctor Who show runner, Russell T Davies, this exciting action-adventure series follows the exploits of school friends Luke, Clyde and Rani, who team up with alien investigator Sarah Jane Smith and her trusty super-computer Mr Smith to examine strange and mysterious events. This time, Sarah Jane is reunited with another of the Doctor's former companions, Jo Grant, and they're joined by the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) in an adventure featuring new vulture aliens and a trip to an alien planet.

Excellent Spin-Off From Dr Who!!
As the title says, this is an excellent spin-off from Dr Who. It is a pity that Elizabeth Sladen's tragic death has ended this great series. Dare I suggest that if the Beeb had its thinking-cap on they might think to have Katy Manning (as the most popular DR's assistant after Sarah Jane Smith) take over as Jo Grant (or Joe Jones if you prefer). She could finish the fifth series as, "The Sarah Jane Adventures, Featuring Jo Grant." Then from series 6 onwards, it could be called, "The Joe Grant Adventures." Of course, the Beeb have always been slow on the uptake, so I guess they won't have the brains to impliment my suggestion. The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete First Series [DVD]The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Complete Series 2 Box Set [DVD]The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Complete Series 3 Box Set [DVD]The Sarah Jane Adventures - Series 4 [DVD]

Good tribute to Elizabeth Sladen
I along with many reviewers of Season 2 and 3 had been disappointed that the large amount of extra features present in the season 1 box set had not appeared. I was therefore expecting nothing in the way of extras for this box set. I was pleasantly suprised to find however a fitting tribute to Elizabeth which was the full Dr Who adventure "Pyramids of Mars" included in the second disk. Add to that the fact that this is the best series of the show to date and you have a couple of dvd's that are as good as Series 1 with the extras included. At such a cheap price you are paying very little for a show which has production values that I would argue are now the equal of Dr Who and some actors that have really grown over the years. A superb dvd set.

Honouring the memory
The production values and writing in series 4 maintain the levels of previous episodes. The writing team proves that you can have a good story that is almost devoid of the title character if you can write 'The Empty Planet' and integrate an event from earlier episodes to explain why only 2 of the regular characters are on hand. Oh, I wish we could see more of the Judoon !'Death of the Doctor' reunites us with one of Sarah Jane's predecessors (Jo Grant, now Mrs Jo Jones), and sees The Doctor drop in. A gem of a story. The bonus feature of 'The Pyramids of Mars' is a worthy honouring of Elisabeth Sladen's contribution to the "Dr Who" mythos.

Great entertainment for children ("of all ages")!
As a long in the tooth 'Doctor Who' fan my collector genes compel me to buy all the DVDs of the series and its spin-offs. Like 'Who' itself though, 'Sarah Jane' is a great show that can be enjoyed by "children of all ages". In fact, I find it very reminiscent of 'classic' 'Doctor Who'... but with better effects & sets etc. A likeable cast, fun stories which balance humour & drama and production values which rival the parent show. Such a shame that lead-actress Lis Sladen passed away in 2011, but I'm sure repeated viewings of this show will be entertaining kids & adults alike for years to come.

Sarah Jane Adventures Series 4
Elisabeth Sladen is probably the best of Dr Who's companions (Catherine Tate the second best). The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 4 is the last "full series" before Elisabeth Sladen's death. The stories as always in this series will appeal to children as well as adults, this is the appeal of The Sarah Jane Adventures, Adults, children, Dr Who Fans all will find something they will like in this DVD set. This is the best tribute to Elizabeth Sladen, a series with wide appeal across all age ranges. That in itself is a rare thing these days.

Hopefully better than the last?
Have no problem with the show but really was not happy with the last release (Season 3) which was a couple of discs thrown in a case with no Special Features at all. After Season 1 & 2 which really made an effort with the Special Features and lay-out; I was a bit miffed when Season 3 came out, like they could not be bothered in fact? I hope with this Season 4 set that they have made more of an effort this time around? (But don't hold your breath!)

Elisabeth Sladen at her best
The penultimate series of adventures contain some of the best stories in childrens' entertainment. The stand out episode has to be Death of the Doctor. With Elisabeth Sladen and Katy Manning putting in superb performances. The interplay between the two ex-Dr Who companions brought emotional tears to the eyes. Some of the best acting I have ever seen. There are not many television moments which move me like this. The series has enough scares and monsters for younger viewers and the emotion and storylines for older ones. Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith seems sadly prescient now but the acting is impressive. Not a single story is poor and the young actors give it their all. The special feature of The Pyramids of Mars shows a younger Elisabeth Sladen in her best story from the Tom Baker era and evidences the fact that she may have aged slightly but her enthusiasm has remained as strong as ever. This is a must buy for anyone who likes Elisabeth Sladen and Dr Who in general.

Mr Smith, I need you- Uh, never saying that again.
The only series that I was missing from the complete set, but no more. Being as that it was about 6 years since these episodes were on TV (or more, depending on which year anyone is reading this), it was fun to revisit them again, but the memory that shall always stick in my mind was the news of Elizabeth Sladen's death in the early months on 2011. Still, strange things can be found wherever we are...

Excellent entertainment, witty and imaginative
Because of Brexit, this is most probably one of my last purchases of British goods before everything becomes too expensive/complicated and before I can no longer be sure that UK production and goods fulfill basic EU standards. I am therefore very happy to have chosen such an excellent series. The episodes (two-parters) are clearly made for children and yet also highly entertaining for adults. Unlike other spin-offs, the Sarah Jane Adventures series fully captures the spirit of Doctor Who. The episodes are imaginative and contain special treats for Doctor Who fans: The episode "Death of the Doctor" features not only the charming and funny Eleventh Doctor but also the also charming and funny Jo Grant from the classic Doctor Who era (played by the same actress: Katy Manning). Furthermore, as a special feature, this blue ray disc set contains "Pyramids of Mars" with the Fourth Doctor and the young Sarah Jane. My favourite two-parter from this set is, however, "Lost in time", a fascinating time travel adventure.

Saved the Best for Last
No one got splooshed at the end, except for a tiny splat on Clyde, thank you very much! Elisabeth Sladen is wonderful, as usual. We'll miss her. What a gift to us fans that she was given this Doctor Who spin-off. We just finished watching her in Doctor Who: Invasion of the Dinosaurs (Story 71), the one with the wonky dinosaurs (if you get it, watch all the specials on disk 2 first, they include an interview with Sladen, and a great making-of). The team of fine young actors, Luke (Tommy Knight), Clyde (Daniel Anthony), and Rani (Anjli Mohindra) do a great job. The superbly talented Gareth Roberts wrote several episodes, as did Russell T. Davies, and we're treated to a wonderful, poignant reunion between the Doctor's companions with Sarah Jane Smith finally meeting Jo Grant (Katy Manning). This can't be missed by Doctor Who fans of all ages. Enjoy!
