AOAO Original Pilot Sunglasses - SkyMaster Mirrored Glass Lenses - Bayonet Temple

Great quality !
These glasses offer amazing eye protection and made from superior quality. I am not a fan of polarized lenses since they tend to make me dizzy, but I don’t have any issues with these. I ordered the gold mirror lenses, and I feel they have a little bit of pink/green undertones. I don’t mind though since they give them a more feminine look on me. They do smudge easily, but there is a cloth and nice case included.

Not worth it!
I keep giving American Optical another chance and every time they disappoint. The first time I bought a pair of American optical was 20 years ago and the gold frame started tarnishing under the bayonet temples. The “lifetime warranty” only covers solder points so when I tried to get them fixed they said tough luck. Back than it wasn't a life time warranty, i think it was a year and good luck trying to get a live person. Despite admitting that it is the fault of their plating which caused the corrosion when it came in contact with body oils and sweat. They were $60 at the time and I got a few years use out of them so I figure no harm no fowl.Incidentally the other company, Randolph Engineering, also American made and similar aviators use to be significantly more expensive so AO was more attractive in price. Come to this pair and the price difference is much smaller at $214. Similar non polarized frames are $249 with RE.I decided to give American another try because Randolph didn’t have the gold flash and I really like this look. Unfortunately the gold flash is more a rose gold in person, while nice, it’s not to my taste.I never had a problem with the fit of American optical. I’ve always worn the middle 55inch size. The 57 makes my eyes look like a but and the 52 are too tight. This pair is both tight in the temples and the nose pieces push into my nose in a very uncomfortable way. After wearing for an hour or two they leave pinch marks. As others have mentioned the glasses don’t sit straight. They have this tilt that leaves a bigger gap on the top bring it closer to your face on the bottom. It makes it feel like they are going to fall off and leaves more light in from the top. It’s really quite disappointing. My Randolph glasses fit perfectly. The lenses are always the exact colors that’s shown on their ads and when I sent them in for a tune up. They inspected everything and replaced the bayonet temples and nose pads. I got them back look brand spanking new. AO has nothing like this. They over promise and under deliver and it’s murder trying to get customer service. My advice: pay the extra and get the nicer Randolph engineering and let this brand die.

Comfortable, high quality, great presentation, solidly built
Impressive high quality aviator style glasses. A classic, masculine design that most everyone wears well, from pilots to movie stars pretending to be pilots. Once you try them you'll see what the fuss is about, and boy are these fantastic ones to make a fuss over. These are nicely weighted without being heavy, exhibiting fantastic build quality, and possessing a fit and finish that will make you sort of disappointed to have to remove them when the time comes. One of my favorite parts of buying something that is a step up in quality is seeing the small, thoughtful touches that come with the product. This one was finding that a single arm was wrapped in plastic to protect the lenses during shipping. Ever hear about why the big rock stars would demand no brown M&Ms backstage on page 22 of their contracts with local venues? It was so they would know when they walked in the room and looked at a bowl of candy whether the details of the other more serious needs for the performance were met. This single plastic sleeve over one arm on the lens side seems simple, but it's a minor thing that shows that the bigger concerns were likely also thought of with similar care.FWIW, this is my first pair of non polarized glasses in a while, and it's nice to be able to easily see electronics again.Very pleased. If you are considering a pair, give it a try.

"Nice." "Nice." "Nice." "Awesome."
Solid. Shiny. Heft but not heavy. Decent job making driving safer.Look I've never owned sunglasses that weren't plastic trash that cost about as much as a combo meal at your local fast food restaurant. When I had the opportunity to snag a pair or $200+ sunglasses that have a history and craftsmanship, I was skeptical.Issues with shipping aside, when I did eventually get a pair I was in awe.Are any sunglasses worth hundreds? I don't know. What I do know is, I'm trying to figure out how to convince my wife to let me buy the black with blue lenses... or silver with green lenses... or... Ugh.These are great sunglasses, would make just about anyone squee with delight if you gifted them to them, and I definitely recommend them. (if you can justify the price tag in your budget, or course.)Only disappointments really are the microfiber cloth that comes with them (which looks exactly like the diagram with the schematic/measurements of the glasses on it) leaves micro-fuzz on the lenses.Would be nice if the case were a rigid hard case instead of the semi-soft leather case. The leather is fine, but I can only imagine my original pair probably had a big heavy something slam down on it and crush the glasses despite the case. It's firm but not impact-blocking like a hard wood or metal case.Neither of those negatives are the glasses themselves though. The case is subjective, and the cloth is still cool and functional.

Gorgeous look, great lenses, but bayonet temple tips are snug
I ordered these sunglasses in the 55 mm after carefully measuring my face and determining that to be the best option. However, while the lenses themselves are a perfect fit for my face, the bayonet temple tips are quite snug to the point that they become uncomfortable to wear after 15 minutes or so. This is a bummer because beyond the tight tips, I love these sunglasses. The Tru-Color Gray lenses are amazingly crisp and clear. The mirror effect on the front is stunning. The gold coloring is rich and gives the pair a look of high-quality. The included case feels very polished and professional and works as the cherry on top of the whole experience. My only issue with these sunglasses is that they’re super snug behind the ears. The pressure leads to headaches and as someone who is prone to migraines, I would advise caution to those ordering these to be sure that they will not cause any problems. Perhaps this is simply an issue with the shape of my specific head, but considering the company doesn’t currently offer any additional personalized measurements beyond the lens width, it’s hard to know. I wish they offered a variety of sizes for both total frame width and temple length.Overall, I would recommend these sunglasses, but maybe only to those that have narrow heads. I think of myself as having a fairly standard head shape and size, I’ve rarely run into issues with sunglasses being uncomfortable, but these just pinch a little too much.
