Great alternative to factory tool that gets the job done
This tool works perfectly. The machined openings may be literally a hair too wide, but it helps when fitting the tool down on to the cams as you don’t have to force them, they gently slide into place with a tiny bit of extra room leftover as long as you’re at tdc. The tiny bit of slop means nothing tho. It gets the timing in the perfect spot and holds it there, so there’s no issues. The people saying that the openings are too wide causing the cams to slip out while trying to remove the cam bolts are MORONS. This tool is not meant to hold high torque, it’s only meant to hold the cams from moving during service. You MUST use an extra wrench next to the tool on the cam flats to help hold it in place while removing and installing the cam bolts. Overall this tool is 5/5. No cons that’s I can think of. It sure beats the $225 my Mac guy wanted for the OTC version!

Timing chain locks
Well worth the money, did a water pump replacement in a 2015 Ford explorer 3.5 L (which is timing chain driven) worked very well.

Nice to have
Surprisingly nice to have. If you are one tooth off your car will not start. Its possible to line up without, but you can't check it later. On a 2013 Mustang V6 worked great! Swapped out a exhaust camshaft with just removing valve covers.

Works for 2014 Mazda CX-9 3.7l V6 (FWD)
Before purchasing, I posted a number of questions regarding the efficacy of this tool for the above mentioned vehicle - I received both "yes" and "no" answers. Here are the facts: 1. Yes - this tool works on the engine mentioned above - this engine is actually a Ford engine and can be found in numerous Ford and Mazda vehicles from 2008 - 2015 (with some minor differences not applicable to this tool). 2. The tool properly holds the CAMs in place during engine work; however, care must be taken when applying force to the crank as it can cause the tools to slip (very slightly) enough to create an issue when installing new timing chains. 3. It is very apparent a slip has occurred by simply looking at the tools and noticing they are not completely resting on the heads. Easier to rectify but reversing force on the crank - the CAMS will move very slightly and the tools will set back down. 4. When the tools are in the proper position - the CAMS are properly aligned. 5. If installing timing chains, I highly recommend "counting links" between the timing marks to confirm proper positioning. **The reason this tool did not get 5 stars was due to the minor slippage described above. In fairness, this could be due to slight CAM wear in the engine (100,000+ mile engine).

Not a hold down, only an alignment tool
Tool works as designed. At first I thought it was a crappy tool because it wouldn't hold the camshafts during tightening and loosening. The phaser bolts are so tight. I forget the initial torque but the final is 180. It also doesn't help the bolt is a Torx. Stupid Fords!! It was then I realized it was an alignment tool only. Not a hold down. The name refers to it as a "holding tool". There is a big hex in the center of the camshafts to hold for tightening and loosening. It works great as an alignment tool.

Worked perfect
This tool worked perfect when replacing the water pump on my 2013 3.5 V6 Ford Explorer. I read reviews stating that the tool isn't machined well enough and that you need to hold it when moving the crankshaft. I did have to hold it but for the price I think this tool does the job very well. If you need something more sophisticated don't pay $35 and get the OTC for $150. My intend was 1 time use (hopefully) and bang for the buck this is unbeatable. Sure enough this tool can be used multiple times but I don't recommend it for a shop, I don't think it's intended for everyday use. No regrets, would buy it again, no doubt about it.
