Do not purchase - firmware updates prevent 3rd party ink, ink costs 50% of printer
This was an adequate printer until I performed a firmware update today and it stopped recognizing 3rd party ink. Apparently this is a known issue. If you *do* buy this printer, don't ever update the firmware. The Epson ink cartridges do not last and/or dry out and are $50 for a $100 printer. Will not buy from Epson again.

Good printer, poor software. I mean really poor.
Bought one at Walmart thinking the software, particularly for scanning, couldn't be worse than Canon's or HP's. Soon learned to my dismay that Epson's software on a PC is really really bad. I hooked it up to 3 PCs next to my router. After struggling with installing the software, at least an hour per PC -- and I'm a PC-desktop technician retired -- found out that to get the scanner working requires setting it up with USB cable first. Then it will print okay, but the scanner will work only with USB , by the way not a PC on ethernet.BUT WAIT!!! STRUGGLED MY WAY TO A SOLUTION!! All the above was true, but do this. Get the printer working on its display until you connect to your network and it has an IP. Mine is 192.168.1.09. Get that far, THEN go run the installer software on your PC. Watch each step until you get the choice WIFI or USB. Look at the bottom where it says ADVANCED SETUP. Click and it lets you put in the 192.168... Save and after that everything should be smooth sailing, and work on WIFI, LAN or USB.ADVANCED SETUP put in the IP!!!

NOT FOR PHOTOS!
I purchased this printer from Walmart (same price) this past Friday. I spent about two hours setting up this printer on Saturday, after which I attempted to print photos. Well, the joke was on me, these pictures were faded looking and blurry, despite the fact I set the print preferences to "Best" and set the paper to photo paper. After being so disappointed, I did not even bother to try printing any documents (I already have a printer that does that and more); I purchased this printer specifically for photos. I have an HP all-in-one that prints photos better than this Epson XP4205, and they aren't that great. Today is Sunday, this afternoon I returned it to Walmart. I do NOT recommend this printer, especially if you want to print descent photos.

Its okay
First i want to say I bought this to do crafts and print work sheets out for my daughter. It may just be the quality of my printer, but every time I change the ink I have the black ink leak out until I readjust settingbor clean the head. However, I have had no issues with connection, it was very easy to set up, and for the most part the color is good.If using regularly I did need to replace one ink cartridge at least once a month.

Horrible, Awful, No Good, Terrible Printer
I purchased this printer from another retailer but wanted to warn people from making the same mistake I did.Setup is ridiculous. The software rarely works or connects.Speaking of connecting... it's supposed to be a Wi-Fi printer and also have Apple Air Print. Neither work. In fact, even with it connected via USB, if the printer is left on for over a couple of minutes without printing anything, you will need to shut it off and turn it back on in order for it to be found. Otherwise, it will show as "offline," and nothing will print. My biggest complaint is that you MUST purchase Epson-brand ink cartridges, or the printer will become a brick. After less than 50 pages, it was out of black ink. I decided I didn't want to pay the ridiculous amount of money Epson charges for their ink, so I purchased an off-brand that was the same number and size as the original. After physically installing it, I attempted to cycle through the printer menu to complete the installation with the software. It rejected the non-Epson brand ink cartridge and it will not allow me to go to the home menu or print anything at all. It's a brick.Unfortunately, I've waited too long to take it back to the store where I purchased it. It was on sale and very cheap and now I understand why. It's JUNK!It should be illegal to force people to use brand replacement parts.

tech support is non-existent
In mid-January I ordered an Epson XP-4205 printer. Using the instructions that came with my printer, I tried to connect it to my computer, both by USB and wirelessly. I was unable to get connected. I called Epson’s tech support number for assistance. The person I spoke with sounded Asian, and I had a hard time trying to understand her. I asked several times if I could speak with someone I could understand. She did not transfer me. I tried three or four times to follow her instructions for connecting wirelessly. After being unsuccessful numerous times, I finally said, “This is not working. I am going to hang up now.”I called a local tech shop and made an appointment to haul my printer and computer in to their shop. They were able to get my printer connected. But that service cost me $52.43.Because calling Epson's technical support service was unsuccessful, I asked that Epson reimburse me for the expense I incurred. My request was denied.I don't plan to order anything from Epson in the future.
