When viewing straight this instrument you can see the natural sky with a 10 arc-minute (1/3 moon diameter) "red-star" which shows your scopes position. When the scope is pointed at a high angle the mirror can be flipped so the viewing is more comfortable. When it is viewed this way the sky orientation matches a refractor or SCTs image. The size, colour and the brightness of the 'red-star' can be adjusted so it is easy to see against the night sky background. The glass lens is made from the finest quality and acts as a beam-splitter to combine the natural sky background. The first lens acts as a collimating mirror so the red star can be seen against the sky background regardless of the type of the observation. You can pin-point objects in the sky even with high power high pieces in the telescope.
