Fierce Beauty: Preserving the World of Wild Cats

Huge let down if you're looking for Tim Flach
This book does not compare to Flach's "More Than Human" and similar volumes -- largely because Flach took very few of the photographs here.Unless you have some particular need for a polemic on the importance of big cat preserves and a series of uninspired photographs that attempt to make that case, then skip this one.

magnificent photos of beautiful big cats
This large-format book was well worth the wait. The photos are outstanding, and show the power, grace and beauty of these majestic creatures; the plain backgrounds really allow the cats to stand out. The author clearly cares about them, and they are treated with the love, respect and dignity they deserve. There is a wonderful spread of full-face portraits that encompasses several pages--I've never seen such a variety of the rare "golden tabby" color phase that, along with the white with stripes and the all-white stripe-less phase, only occurs in the Bengal tiger. The cover photo is of a golden tabby. If you love big cats, get this book. For those people who don't believe in zoos or wildlife sanctuaries, and who think that all captive great cats "should be returned to the wild", every day there is less and less "wild" in this world. Several of the essays in the book make this plain, along with the fact that a well-run, well-maintained sanctuary is a safer place than just about anywhere on the planet where these animals formerly ran free...

Great. Just what I needed.
The book was donated to a school library in memory of a student who committed suicide. The book was beautifully illustrated and in excellent condition. It was just what I needed for this student to be remembered. The libriarian told me the student loved tigers and there was no book about tigers in the library prior to this one.

beautiful!
This is one of the best art books on wild cats. The text is informative but not over powering. The photos of the cats of the gorgeous. Truly gorgeous. Part of the book's sales go to help the wildlife preserve they live on. It's one of my favorite books. A lifetime treasure.

Beautifully Done
Again, Doc comes through with his beauties. I usually use his detailed photos as reference for my animal applique work. I would also like to add there are signed copies of this book available at tigerfriends.com. Signed by Doc, not signed by the fur-kids....Well done.

Not Impressed
I bought this book after purchasing More than Human, I found Tim Flach's photography very moving and extraordinary on that book. But that is not the case here. Boring at times and very repetitive at best. I wanted so much to Love this book.

Great pix, well presented, interesting and informative text.
Wonderful photos extremely well presented. Text just enough, informative and taking nothing away from the beauty of the pix. Big thank you to the supplier of a new book at a fraction of the price of Prime.
