Retro done right.It's been years...I mean YEARS...since I've tried Avia kicks, but the retro styling of this new fit got my attention. The look and design of this pair is very reminiscent of the old school high tops we all wore, but with extra padding and leather detailing. Plus these bad boys got the comfort upgrade. The leather is thick but supple and weighs nothing compared to the old versions. The ankle collar is well padded and helps me feel supported since I'm one of those guys who rolls out when he walks around.My two favorite callouts about these sneakers are the cantilever soles and the wrap-around 360 outsole. The sole is similar to some high end running shoes that split and open/close based on the turf you are currently on...makes for a much better cushion/traction for your feet. And the 360 really keeps my foot steady when moving around. As noted, the sneakers are very lightweight for their size and detailing, but don't feel like they lost any of the Avia quality we remember.If we're being honest, I got these kicks for looks, not for playing hoops. And they look good. Because everything old is new again, right? So far so good.
