This helps in keeping the tent dry from underneath should rain occur. Although it didn't rain, we did have a water pipe that leaked all night next to our tent and we didn't feel a thing. The tent was bone-dry the entire time. When it was time to leave, I lifted the tarp off the ground and found quite a bit of moisture under it. I hosed it off and let it sit in the sunlight for an hour or so. I was able to fold it up very neatly and was impressed with its overall performance.
