It can be left off. However, if you are feeding 48v as input to this unit, when it is designed to have only the signal as input, I do not know what the effects will be. I imagine that it is best to operate the 48v boost at the last device before the mic, if even your mic needs the boost at all. **Q: What does the "monitor" dial do?** A: It controls the mix level of the headphone out without affecting the gain or mic volume . **Q: Most of the answers say this is for low impedence mics. i'm looking for a way to connect the wireless audio2000s mic system to my computer. will i have any problems if i'm using a macbook pro and the mic receiver has an output of what appears to be 600 ohms?** A: Couldn't say for sure, but impedance seems to be much less of a concern with the mic circuitry in use lately. If there's a preamp in your mic's receiver, you wouldn't need this unit. It's not merely an adapter. It's a preamp.
