WORKPRO 6.5 Amp Corded Compact Router Kit

Since mounting my full-size router to a table I needed something for free hand work and smaller projects. This router runs smoothly & has plenty of power. The depth adjustment holds tight and is fine for rough work, but if depth is critical use a gauge to set the depth as the adjustment is a bit sloppy when unclamped. Tool seems well built, not too heavy but enough weight to stay put while routing. I did not try the included bits, I already have the ones I need and trust. At this price point I’m not comfortable risking it and ruining a project because of cheap bits. By eye they look fine, edges are clean and sharp. But looks don’t reveal the quality of the pilot bearings or the materials used.

Let me start by saying that I am not a seasoned, professional woodworker, but I am an avid hobbyist, and I am certainly able to tell the difference between solid, well-built tools and flimsy, cheap tools, especially after a little bit of use. I've had this tool for a couple weeks now, and I must say that I find it hard to agree with some of the more critical reviews, especially those that describe a cheap build that slips and comes loose and a collet that doesn't fit 1/4 inch bits properly, etc. I found none of that to be true in my case. The bits come in and out as they should without any difficulty, and the depth adjustment is solid and locks in tightly when you lock it down. The gears and the backbone hardware are all metal, and I have yet to have a bit come loose or come out of adjustment, and I've used it quite a bit, probably 7 or 8 times, since it was delivered. I have to say, it seems pretty solid to me. Even the instructions aren't bad, which usually, with less expensive tools like this, you have to kind of figure it all out on your own. This one comes with coherent instructions along with most of the accessories you might need, and probably a few things you won't. It only comes with 4 basic bits though, so you might want to invest in an assortment of 1/4 inch router bits if you don't already have some laying around your shop. If I have a complaint or concern at all, I'm a little worried that the motor might not do so well if I'm cutting deep into hard wood or using it in a way that strains the motor. But I also might be the source of the problem. On a couple of occasions the motor has cut out on me when I was trying to push too fast through a cut, but on both occasions it started right back up and I had no problems when I slowed down and stopped pushing it so hard. I think that is more due to my inexperience than it is poor product quality. You have to let the router work at its own pace, and I'm not real experienced yet at using one. Now if you're a seasoned, life-long woodworker, this tool might not suit you. I honestly don't know. I don't have the perspective to speak for anyone else, but for a hobbyist such as myself, this tool meets my needs nicely and does it at a price that is low enough that it's actually kind of surprising. For me, this was an excellent buy.

This is a great little router and, in my opinion, cannot be beat for the price. I would have given it five stars however I had issues with the first one ordered. The plunge base would not spring back up after releasing the lock as it should. I contacted amazon and they promptly sent replacement within two days. This one is perfect, and the plunge base springs back up as it should after lock lever released. This unit includes plunge and standard base with edge and straight guides and several guards with vacuum attachments for dust collection which in my opinion works as well as it can for a routers dust collection. It is very dependent on the power of the vacuum that one uses. The kit even includes router bits. For the price of this kit being well under a hundred dollars you cannot go wrong.

Works good, plenty of power. The Fence is kind of shoddy, and the plunge base has some glitches but that's easily remedied with a drop of machine oil on each shaft and its action is as smooth as any other router I've used. The other benefit is with the plunge base, the "DeWalt Universal Router Fence" ( Amazon ID B00002232W ) fits perfectly using the inside holes of the DeWalt fence which gives very smooth adjust meth of the fence in addition to a micro adjustment. I haven't found a base for the trim router base, It could be used in a router table if you made a 1/2" plywood adapter plate to go from the round base to the square options of an aluminum router table insert. The vacuum attachment for both bases works real slick and the included bits are carbide and have cut all the slots for the T-Track to hold feather board in router table just fine. I'm using an old Menards router for the router table as it's fixed speed so it's relegated to that application perfectly due to having the right base dimensions to screw onto the black $15 router table insert plate. If you aren't going to be hogging away with 2" cuts, this will suit your needs, though I've pretty much ignored the fixed base entirely, the plunge base is almost all I need - except for templates. The round fix base takes standard template bushings directly, while the plunge router only has a metal template bushing for a 1/2" straight bit. That's fine if you're only doing 1/2" things but there's no way to use my set of brass insert bushings for template following with this router and the plunge base, though it DOES work with fixed based router. Great value and put together great, though I'd suggest the DeWalt universal fence to save frustration when trying to cut a clean parallel line to a work piece. It's also better to go in 1/4" cuts at a time for best finish. I tried lower RPM (for larger diameter tools) and high speed and the high speed gets the best finish for 1/2" and cuts, along with only taking 1/4" swipes each cut. UPDATE #2: Tilt Base Item B0DJ152RZ5 Fits this router perfectly and even has a pinion that engages the threads. So this is an all in one with the DeWalt fence, fixed base for router table, plunge base for off table, and itilt base for bevels. Still very happy with the router and may pick up another now that I have all the accessories and far too much invested in 1/4" router bits.

Everything appears to work except the collet is either defective or became deformed. 1/4" shank router bits do not fit into the collet including the bits that came with the router, and other router bits that fit correctly in my other routers. I removed the collect and attempted to put a bit through the solid end of the collet to verify sizing and it does not fit into the solid back side of the collet so the collet is definitely too small or deformed.

Very powerful. I got this because, after using a Ryobi trim router to round off baseboards and butcher block counter top, I wanted a plunge router to make cutting boards from the extra butcher block. It is way more powerful than the Ryobi router. It has RPMs and torque that are more than adequate for thick hardwood. It won't run past level 4 on a 2 amp hour battery but runs on all settings on the 4 amp hour battery that's included. It's a beast so runs though the battery quickly on high settings. Unfortunately, Great Star, who owns the Work Pro brand, only sells 2 amp hour batteries separately. Fortunately, I have their 4.5 inch circular saw so have an extra 4 amp hour battery to swap. I suspect those saying it shuts off right away are using a 2 ah battery or a 4 ah battery that's not fully charged. Any brand won't give you max settings if your battery isn't adequate or full. I did have a bit in too tight and had to put the tool in a vice to rotate the locking bolt and snapped off the locking pin housing torquing it too hard but now I just stick a screwdriver in the locking pin hole and it makes everything much easier so I prefer it that way! No stars off because that was my fault. Also, yes they come with and use 5/16 or 8mm bits. Standard in US is 1/4 inch bits. There is a collet reducer included in the package for 1/4 bits. I don't know why they don't say so. Maybe it's in the manual but who reads those? I like the default 8m bits as they are more durable than 1/4 bits, plus this size gives me the option of using a 1/2 inch extension. Attached are pictures of the first cutting board I've ever made. It's big enough to cut watermelons per my wife's request. I just used the Dewault Miter saw and the Workpro Router. Easy Peasy! (Hey Great Star, get your head out and stop messing up your power tool line with Work Pro X with different batteries and separate it into 3 tiers like everyone else does, utilize Work Pro, Duratech, and SK for power tools and stop the nonsense.)

I picked up the WORKPRO Router Combo a few weeks ago, and it’s been a solid addition to my small workshop so far. For anyone looking for a reliable, mid-range router setup, this one’s worth considering.

I was opening up an existing hole in a cabinet top to replace the drop in sink with a new one. All the new ones are a bit larger. I purchased this to open the hole up. This little machine was a beast. I did use a bit I purchased separately that really removed material well. But this little router has plenty of power and did the job well.

Soy un carpintero aficionado y utilizo esta herramienta para mejorar los acabados de muebles, he utilizado otros routers de mayor potencia y precio, honestamente este mini router bien utilizado no les pide nada a Routers profesionales, si va a ser necesario utilizar brocas de mejor filo y calidad que las que vienen con la herramienta, pero vale mucho la pena la inversión en este producto, lo recomiendo, ( dejo usa fotos de los acabado de canto que hice con el router a unas mesas laterales).

A great little machine. I took it out of the box and put it straight to work. No issues @ all. I actually compare it to my Ridgid trim router that was stollen from me some time back It's well worth the money. Respect the tool and its limitations and it will return with positive results.

Ça fonctionne bien sur des bois plutôt moux. Pins, cèdre, etc. Chose à améliorer : l isolant à la prise en main n est pas assez épais ,la chaleur du moteur finit par se ressentir. Conseil: si vous travaillez sur des bois plus durs, choisissez une moteur de 1000watts min. et +(120v/10A ou 2 Hp)

Esta máquina. No le pide nada alas d alta gama. Super materiales d primera. Sus accesorios completos . Todo super la recomiendo. Un super motor potente fabrico muebles y diario le doy batalla
