Ravina the Witch?

Still an excellent
The illustrations in this are superb pieces of artwork in their own right. Which is just as well as it is written in French and my French is a little rust. I wasn't aware of that before I bought it but that might be an oversight on my part. Still an excellent book

Beautiful but very strange - not for children
"Somewhere, on the coastline of a tiny country in Europe, there was an enormous garbage dump. It kept growing and growing thanks to the many garbage trucks that visited it every day. In this dump, there lived a thousand crows and one human girl. Her name was Ravina."Wt....? This is the first time that I have read work by Junko Mizuno, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I stumbled across it on Goodreads, and what drew me to it was the cover; the artwork was strangely beautiful. And this is definitely a strange book. I'm not completely sure what I have just read. This is a strange tale, which reads like a fairy tale, but it is definitely not for young readers. What I took away from Ravina's tale is how easy it is for people to use others, for their own purposes, but then to turn on them when it suits them - I have no idea if this was what Mizuno was trying for, or if there is some other moral/message that I have completely missed. The beginning of the tale, which describes how Ravina acquires her magic wand, is strangely beautiful, and then from there it just gets stranger and stranger. But it was the artwork which kept me turning the pages.A very weird read, one which leaves you feeling as though someone has slipped something into your food or drink, to mess with your perception of things. Has it made me want to find more by this author? I'm not sure. Let me come down from this trip, and I may then be able to decide.

Classic Junko Mizuno
"Ravina the Witch?" is an absolutely stunning book for older audiences. The fairytale nature of the story works very well with Mizuno's trademark aesthetic - offbeat humor, sexy ladies and playful eroticism.

Great book. I'm a big Junko Mizuno fan and this is my first book. The quality of it is really good, the drawings are beautiful as always. The book is quite large but very thin itself, looks pretty on my shelf :))

Sublime!
