If you have the right size you do not take hinge off. Just loosen and put in jamb side. Worked great. **Q: Do the shims help align doors so air gaps go away?** A: It worked for me. I used three shims at each hinge to move my door over to fill in the gap. However, if your door is twisted or warped it will not help you much. **Q: The two center door jam screws are offset, but the shim holes don't appear line up. Is that an issue? I have 4" hinge with 4 screws** A: I also used these on a 4" hinge with 4 screws and the holes lined up. The saving grace is ease of use, and solid but easily trimmed plastic. slots are generous, so any subtle differences in the hinge manuf. is easily accounted for.
