U.S. Marines Close-quarter Combat Manual
"**.
Outdated for the Battlefield, but not for the Streets!
This book is an excellent book for basic Mortal Combat, designed specifically to kill someone who is trying to kill you! It gives basic yet very effective strikes, vital point targets, limb destructions and a very effective finishing technique for hand to hand combat called the heel stomp (to the head), also known as the "Axe Kick". Out of the six "Lines" THE LINE SYSTEM comprises, only LINES 1 to 3 are useful for Civilians in extreme Self Defense situations but the next 3 lines are only suited for the Battlefield, especially the ambush "kills" with a knife and the Bayonet fighting. But the chapter on WEAPONS OF OPPORTUNITY are also very useful for extreme Self Defense situations. Overall, this is the extreme end of hand to hand Combat, beyond Self Defense: Mortal Combat, which all modern Martial Arts derived from before they were watered down for sport and Civilian Self Defense. This is a great book for an occasion when MMA or Karate or BJJ fails you in a life or death situation! I highly recommend reading it for Self Defense enthusiasts since we never know when our lives or family members or loved ones lives will be in grave danger, especially in these violent and chaotic Times!

Just What I Was Looking for...
I was looking for information on the LINE system for the Marines. I was not disappointed. Hoping to add this to my other manuals

Words from a combat theorist
As a combat theorist, I am forced to say that the amount of practicality that this book contains is rather concentrated. To back my defense, I've actually had the honor of informally interviewing two United States Marines who enlightened me to the fact that such combat systems as LINE and SAFTA have already been dismissed as training arts for the Marines. The reason for this is apparent. Many of the described techniques in these systems can not guarantee a practioner any high level of success. For instance, in U.S. Marines Close-Quarters Combat Manual, the author (or authors) claim that by bringing your foot down on your opponent's head while he or she is on the ground (a technique that karate experts term the "axe kick") will immediately kill him/her. This is one claim that has yet to be proven. Also, some of their assassination techniques and suggestions prompt serious questionability. For instance, the author (or authors) claim that after slitting your opponents throat, you should lay your chest on top of his face for a few minutes, thus rendering him incapable of either producing any sounds or inhaling any air. By laying on top of your opponent within enemy territory, you risk serious tactical exposure. My advice: For self-defense applications, purchase STREET KARATE by John McSweetney. This book is to the point and, since these techniques have been distilled from actual self-defense incidents, the described techniques are very accurate....

Basic self-defense nothing new here
As an instruction manual there is nothing new contained in this book. The main take home message for me was aggression and repetition in equal measure which makes sense in the context of this being a military training manual. For someone just beginning their combat journey it may be useful but equally the same knowledge can be gained from some intense boxing and judo or BJJ training.

Good times
I was having USMC flashbacks and thought of the Line Training and especially with all the crime in my area...it was fun to see and remember this stuff..

This is NOT a self denfence manual
Firstly let me point out that in no uncertain terms this is not a book on self defence, nor does it conform to the laws inplace in most contries and if you use one of these techniques in full on an attacker outside the pub on a friday night you will be had for man-slaughter at least. This is the USMC LINE system of close quarter fighting, and as it says in the title "fighting", it is designed to be efficient, army efficient. If you want a book that gives pretty indepth glimse into military hand to hand fighting, i would recommend this book, it is of decent size (200 odd pages) and follows a consistent format - basic attacks and defenses right up to advanced moves. The illustrations are hand drawn and in black and white which does not add to the clarity, but the moves are well explained in step by step instructions. All in all this is a good 'fighting' manual, it is well written and very down the point. Definitely a good addition to the martial arts/hand to hand fighting library, glad I bought it. Lots of information for a good price.
