Please do your Australian Shepherd & self a delight and start reading this book.
This is book is more than just outstanding...way more. It should be required reading for anyone with an Australian Shepherd. I only wish I had read this before our Australian Shepherd came to us and especially when he was a pup. I can see how so many of the mistakes I have made could have been avoided. I have ten books on dog training and four of them are Australian Shepherd specific. This one is by far the best! Mark Manfield's writing style is terrific. He doesn't waste your time, no, there is so much he has put into this that I must really read slow and take it all in. How he is able to fit so much into a paragraph where others would take pages lets you know that he not only knows what he is talking about, he has a rare gift as a writer that few really are blessed with. This book is truly that, a blessing to anyone seeking to know more Australian Shepherds. Anyone looking to benefit themselves or their dog and all that it surrounds, please do your dog & self a delight and start reading this book. It really is the best out there.

Great for training Australian Shepherds and their potential owners alike. Must-read!
In beginning the book, I had been intrigued by the Australian Shepherd breed but didn’t know much about them. We have a Belgian Malinois, Millie; in knowing that lovable rascal and a bit about dogs in general, the Australian Shepherd did make intuitive sense. Mark Manfield addressed just about every question I would have as a prospective owner. The author’s tone, right off the bat, was conversational, warm and practical. A dog advocate, Mr. Manfield understands that buying a dog or adopting one is more than just that – the match with respect to space and personality has to be suitable for both dog and human. What I liked about this book, is the author's take on a comprehensive tour of the Australian Shepherd world as if he was addressing them in his home: A lookout for this and think about that approach as opposed to organizing traits, grooming and training information into a textbook format that can get pretty tedious when one wants a practical day to day dog owner information.Having said that, I really liked his section on feeding, while textbook-complete, including all the science necessary, he avoided jargon which I personally feel is unnecessary in explaining things. That’s why this is a five-star book, written for the down to earth dog owner (as opposed to a breeder), for someone who wants to know the pros and cons of canned food versus homemade food, and should you let your Aussie Shep run around outside, the whys and why nots. And he addresses weight issues in dogs! It’s significant and often not discussed. His section on parasites, ticks, and worming was comprehensive and easy to understand, topics of practical importance not often given enough attention or even mentioned.A sensitive and practical exploration of what really to think about if you are contemplating owning an Australian Shepherd. If you plan to buy just one Australian Shepherd book--make it this one! I have yet to find a book as comprehensive as this. Mark Manfield touches on many topics from normal dog behavior, health, nutrition, etc. It was a quick read but full of helpful information. I felt completely comfortable bringing home our new Australian Shepherd because of everything I learned in this book. I don't think one can adopt an Australian Shepherd without first knowing what you are getting into. The book may scare you away at first but if you are willing to go with what the book says/recommends and you have the time/patience it will pay off tremendously in the long run. This book is a must-read.

AWFUL and Frustrating! Keep your $
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! This book is horrible! A 7 yr old could have done a better job! It offers no solutions or advice beyond telling you that crate training is a good idea...NOT HOW. It also tells you to potty train early...With no advice or suggestions on HOW!!!!

Incredibly useful Australian Shepherd Bible.
This manual is very specific to Australian Shepherd. If you are an experienced dog owner, you would still find this book useful since it has up to date, essential information. But, for us as new timers, this book has been absolutely incredible. Fortunately, we purchased it before we even started to look for breeders and it spelt out, in simple terms, everything thing we needed to take into consideration. Everything from how to select a reputable breeder and available resources to how to perform and read the results if temperament tests. Anything that we could possibly wonder about, the book addresses. So glad we got it.

Far from perfect
This is probably the worst book about dogs that I have ever read. This book is not in any way specific to Australian Shepherds, they only included the words "Australian Shepherd" in each paragraph of the book, ad nauseum. Some of the training information is outdated or just plain wrong. I would not recommend this book.

Worth to have...
Australian Shepherd Bible by Mark Manfield is an outstanding, reliable book based on the knowledge of experienced dog owners and professional breeders. I love how practical, scientific and straight forward this book is. It gives you a great insight on your responsibilities as an Australian Shepherd owner. It talks about Aussies' health, nutrition, grooming, maintenance, training and a lot more. It is well written and can be easily understood even by children. I highly recommen this book to those who are interested to adopt or buy an Australian shepherd (much better if you adopt), or if you already have one. Either way, you'll enjoy this book and you'll discover good to know facts about your dog.

Detailed and Well written.
A very descriptive and thorough book, that educates anyone on things to know if you plan on owning one of this beautiful dog breed. I am a dog lover, and I will have to say that I agree with the contents the author wrote. I used to own 8 Aussie dogs years ago, they are very intelligent, loyal, and beautiful and I miss all my dogs. If I had this book when they were alive, it would have served us better. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone thinking of adding an Australian Shepherd to their family.

Some good info
Some good info to have for new puppy owners for training and general care of dog. Numerous repetitions throughout the book especially in the first couple chapters. Spelling mistakes may lead to confusion for some. Quick basic book.

Check the ‘look inside’ option prior to purchasing this book
It is more like a book for young people or people new to dogs in general . Not overly informative for Aussie Shepherd owners or owners to be. However there is the option to ‘check inside’the book prior to purchase so I would recommend this first.
