My House Our House: Living Far Better for Far Less in a Cooperative Household

Although a how-to guide to cooperative living, My House, Our House would be useful reading for ANYONE who shares living space.The book is well organized, well written, and easy to read. It is more than a list of do's and don'ts. The authors tell the story of the house they bought and the home they made of it. There is even a menu from one of their Thanksgiving dinners.There is much practical information about questions to ask, boundaries to set, and other nuts and bolts of making this type of living arrangement work. However, the authors also make it clear that serendipity was part of their decision. They were doing a drive by tour of houses for sale, when one of them impulsively made a left turn down an especially pretty street. There was a small "for sale by owner" sign. It stood in front of their dream house.

Pleasant book that covered a lot of aspects of a group of women getting together to form a household.While it appeared to serve a lot of functions for them, there was one thread that kept running through the book that sort of bothered me.They all thought this arrangement had worked wonderfully for them. At the same time, with one exception, they all talked about how they were all planning on moving out of the house and going their separate ways.

My House Our House is an excellent reference guide for those of us contemplating how to live a reasonably comfortable life in our later lives and not be alone. For many years my best friend and I have often talked about how we can combine our assets to have a comfortable life in our senior lives. Now we have the answers to our many how to questions.

It is a good book, I could see this hurting a close friend if they are not on the same page. Makes me think twice about getting into this deep. Are they truly happy?

If you are planning on sharing a house with friends, this book is one that you will want to read. It certainly helps you in being aware of issues that should be addressed before living together.

These ladies give a great starter prep to the considerations for cooperative housing. Brought about some good discussion points to begin with others looking into same options.

I saw these women on the Today show and thought "why not me".A good tutorial on this life adventure.

It was fun to share the experience of three women who chose to co create a very comfortable and workable living situation. Great information here.

Very helpful book, relates the story of their experience but provides lots of good information to anyone thinking about cohousing.
