They don't work for squirrels
As soon as squirrels realise that these spikes won't hurt them, they completely ignore them and will quite happily sit on them, or even, jump onto them. When mounted vertically, squirrels will simply use them as a ladder.

Great value item, split each strip into three lengthwise and attached along the top of the whole fence, not seen a cat in the garden since, birds are keeping away so it seems to be working. Easy to fit; might be wise to wear some gloves as you can easily catch your skin on the spikes.
