This sizing is based on hand length and palm circumference. There is a sizing chart with instructions avail at Hestra

Q: Is there a pocket area for hand warmers?

Not on these ones. But they keep your kiddos hands warm and dry, we’ve only had to slip warmers in a few times. My oldest has the pocket but he has never used. We ski and play in the snow 30-60 times a year depending on the winter and Hestra is the only mittens I buy for them.
