Pripyat: The Chernobyl Ghost Town Owings, Lisa (Abandoned Places)

Gave as gift to 8 year old boy and he loved it been reading it for his reading time for weeks

I collect photo books about abandoned places and the Chernobyl disaster, so when this book came up in a recent search, I was intrigued- a children's book? Really? So I had to get it to see. This is actually a very nice book! It has a nice overview of the history of Pripyat, the nuclear accident, and subsequent evacuation. There are even a few pictures of the city before the accident. It might have been neat to have the before and after photos side by side, but still the overall presentation is very nice. There's even a small glossary in the back. The book's list price kind of high for a children's book, but that is due to it having incredibly tough binding fir library use. As a final note, this book is part of a series of six books on Abandoned Places from Bellwether Media, some of which I have never heard of, so that was pretty neat! Series includes Battleship Island, Bodie, Craco, Machu Picchu, and Roanoke.

Es ist leider eher ein "Heftchen" als ein Buch. Die Fotos sind gut und vom Konzept her ist es gut gemacht. Aber ich kann da leider keine Zielgruppe erkennen.

I bought this for my 11 year old as she wanted to know more about Chernobyl. It’s very thin with hardly any info. Definitely not enough detail for older children.
