Epifanes Clear High Gloss Varnish 500ml

I’ve used this to cover a coffee table that gets wiped lots. It’s difficult to use & I struggled to get a smooth finish. But that’s completely down to me & I should have YouTubed tips first. But it’s looks great and I’m pleased with it. It does go a long way. I was recommended this from a friend who says it’s the best yacht varnish and he knows a lots about boats!

I used it to refinish two banister rails my wife dries clothes on. 26 years of damp washing removed the original varnish and the water blackened the mahogany rail. Barkeeper's friend removed most of the black. A light sand with fine aluminium oxide paper removed the rest. Two coats of this are very waterproof and it looks good again.

This is a fantastic varnish, head and shoulders above the rest, that's why it's so expensive!I've been using a so called yacht varnish on my custom built walking sticks but thought i'd try the real deal....an excellent finish. You do need to build the coats up so allow an extra week but the results are worth it, use a good quality brush as this varnish deserves it!! I think I need the larger tin!!

It pays to follow the instructions and allow 24 hours between coats even in the recent very hot weather, but the results are superlative. A good brush is essential in my view to avoid the finish being marred by stray hairs, but as the varnish is not cheap it is not worth spoiling the job by false economies on brushes, and good ones last so much longer with care and very careful cleaning: so far my Hamilton's brush is still going really well after about 25 years!

I used this on a rowing boat and oars, I was very happy with the outcome. Very very sticky though, so watch out for that!

Bought by name, it’s a well established brand with an excellent reputation. Pity about the supplier!Exorbitant delivery costs & then the tin arrived dented! The box packaging is in perfect condition, so it was dispatched dented! This doesn’t affect the product but shows the attention to detail of the supplier!
