Works like it should, cord could be longer
I bought this light to use in my small frog pond after I did a deep spring cleaning. I had a string algae issue before cleaning. Since I put it in after cleaning I didn't get a good before and after effect, but my pond has stayed clear. The cord could definitely be a little longer since you have to "hide" the light in a filter so as to not harm fish or plants. The control box on the cord is also a bit flimsy. My husband accidently stepped on it and it shattered into pieces.

Cheap build but works
Ok UV lamp. It puts out UV light. The lamp feels really cheap, and the controller box is flimsy plastic with a rattling sound. There’s one button, you press it to select how many hours per 24 hours you want it to turn on (3, 6, 12, 24). The lamp is waterproof but it floats which makes it more difficult to use.The directions are not good for English speakers, but you can get the idea. For example a few times it says the lamp can not harm fish when it is trying to tell you to not expose fish to the light or else it will harm them. Etc. UV kills cells, so don’t expose it to cells you don’t want to kill. DO NOT put this in your tank where your pets are or where people can see the light. The manual says it should last 10,000 hours, which is pretty standard for UV bulbs. That’s a little over a year if you run it continuously. At that point you need to buy a new one, but this whole unit is less expensive than most UV bulbs are anyway.

Helps keep some algae down
This light helps kill some of the algae growing in my small koi pond. I do have to remove my fish before I can use the light which is a bit of a pain. It did not kill all the algae in 30 hours of running but it did kill some.

Nice uv light.
This uv light should work nicely to get, and keep, my tank clean. I plan to install it in the filter box as suggested by the seller. At the risk of repeating what other reviewers have stated, don't expose fish, other pets, children, or yourself to this light. It could cause harm.

Helps control pond algae (but MUST NOT expose fish to UV rays)
I periodically purchase these “sterilizing” UV lights to help keep my 1,600 gallon koi pond clear of unicellular algae blooms (“green water”).A critical note for those unfamiliar with pond and aquarium UV lights: UNSHIELDED ones like this will KILL your fish very QUICKLY. There are different ways to get around this, including purchasing an in-line pond clarifier (looks like a cylinder) that shields the light from the fish yet allows pond water to be exposed to the UV light and thus kill algae. I protect my fish by simply submerging the unshielded light in one of our pond’s waterfall tiers (and not in the pond), so the koi can’t possibly be exposed to deadly UV rays.Another consideration: like the UV bulbs utilized in tanning beds, bulbs like these lose efficacy after a certain number of hours. So, they must be periodically replaced even though they still light up. The manufacturer claims the light is “durable 10,000 hours”. The light may be “durable” – but after how many hours does it lose effectiveness? The manufacturer provides no guidance. This light seems near-identical to the others I’ve utilized over the years. I try to avoid running them over 3 hours at a time to prevent premature burnout – the handy timer makes this much easier. I’ve heard of similar lights “exploding” so I also limit prolonged use to avoid unnecessary control box overheating (they can get quite hot). This UV light was securely boxed: plastic film overwrap protected the cardboard box from moisture during shipping. The light was cradled in foam and arrived undamaged. The instructional booklet provides only limited information. This UV light is working exactly as advertised and expected. I will purchase another one when this one seems to be losing efficacy to help control those pesky unicellular (“green water”) algae blooms and keep my koi pond beautifully clear.

A must have
I was really leary of this product. I am an experienced aquarist with 8 aquariums and I have always used an in-tank uv clarifier. However, I have a big hob filter box on one tank that was experiencing a huge algae overgrowth. The whole tank was green. I dropped this light in my hob filter and left it on all night. The next morning the water was noticeably clearer. After 48 hours, the water is completely clear and the green growth on the side and plants is clearing up as well. This was much easier than using an in tank uv and certainly much cheaper. I will be purchasing smaller versions for my smaller hob filters. Note. You cannot just drop this in the aquarium with livestock. It will eventually harm them.

Submersible UV Light
This submersible UV light bar is pretty great. It comes in the box shown in my picture with the light in some foam packaging, 2 suction cups, and the inline controller to control how long you want the light to stay on for.The first thing for any one who is considering something like this: NEVER put a UV light directly into your tank or anywhere where fish or aquatic life would be directly exposed to it. It will kill your livestock. As for putting this in a sump or filter system, it is fantastic. I have other smaller ones for my small filters that work amazingly and this is no different. I just use the inline controller to set it as always on when I need it and it clears out the water and kills bacteria that I don't want in the tank, such as green water.Overall, great UV bar! Just remember to never expose your fish or livestock to direct UV light.
