This is not a safe for security.
So I'm going to start this review with what this safe shouldn't be used for and then describe who the safe is best suited for. As the title implies this is not a safe for security purposes and definitely not for valuables. First off All safes are given a burglary and performance rating typically given by an independent testing company. Although I haven't looked up the rating for this safe I'd say its probably R.S.C. Level 1 or less, R.S.C. is short for Residential Security Container, Level 1 is as low as it gets in terms of security ratings. And in terms of lock picking if you have the right tool this unit can be opened in about 10-20 seconds. This unit also isn't fireproof rated so I'd keep that in mind when storing anything important. Personally I have four safes in my home two are AMSEC Commercial bankers safes and two are Liberty Gun Safes all of which have a minimum 2" inch thick solid construction, these are also unrated much like this safe but for different reasons they meet and exceed the highest available standard for fire and security. That being said they also weigh thousands of pounds, cost tens of thousands of dollars, and I needed a forklift to get them in my home. But they buy me piece of mind because their fire-proof, explosion-proof, and burglar resistant for over 120 minutes. If that's what your looking for go with an ASMEC shut the door and never look back your only theft concern would be a highly experienced senior locksmith with all the right tools. Now that you have an idea of what this safe isnt let's dive into who it's best suited for. I personally keep all my handguns loaded but heavily secured secured around the house I'm also a FFL license holder and Due to certain changes in California Law I've had to reassess my liabilities if someone were to gain unauthorized access to a loaded firearm. If you live in Cali you already know what I mean if not be thankful, this is one of the only states where the gun owner is legally liable for a burglar breaking into a locked safe and committing a crime with your weapon. In all likelihood a jury will probably let the burglar go free for a poor upbringing and the gun owner will end up in jail for owning a safe that a burglar thought only had liquidable assets in it, basically making it your fault. The burglars intent in essence was cash theft, surprise only guns here, it's your fault that the only valuable I can steal are guns have fun in court and welcome to california. So like most law abiding citizens that are pro firearms for self-defense I'm left with the issue of keeping a loaded firearm very easily accessible in addition to being very secure from unauthorized users. These two elements rarely go hand in hand. This is where this unit starts to shine, the finger print reader is top of the line for $300 bucks and can generally take a beating from a 32oz hammer for about 30-45 minutes before it caves in. That's more then enough to stop children and your average Joe's from breaking into the unit. Mind you I would be very cautious thinking your secure with teenagers 14 years and up with internet access and an overactive curiosity, generally anything secure at that age means it must be something really cool and taunts a teenager to open the box by any means necessary. And again this unit is very easy to break into I used to take everything in my house apart when I was still in diapers and had our armory vault open by the time i could walk when I was a kid, If that's you and your kids your better off showing them what's inside, taking them to the range, and teaching them about firearm dangers and proper gun safety. Essentially taking the temptation away before it begins because they could easily get in to this safe with a little bit of knowledge, a screwdriver, and patience. If you dont believe me just load a kids game onto your mobile phone let your two-year-old play with it, take it away and unlock it a couple of times where they can look over your shoulder they'll have your phone unlocked playing tetris and ordering pizza drooling over a pay-per-view in no time. Again all things considered I'm still giving this safe a 5-star review because it suits my needs better then anything else on the market in this price range. Its reliable, its fast, it notifies you of attempted entry, low batteries, and its secure enough around tool-less house guests and small children. Also, As a person that works with their hands regularly wearing down and scaring up my finger impressions is just a fact of life and I have yet to have any problem in accessing this safe with the obvious exception of a cut in my finger, thankfully I have ten of them and the safe can store multiple impressions so when in doubt use another finger. The last thing is battery life, you really dont want to be reaching for a home defense weapon only to find out the battery is six feet under, I recently had this happen on a snap safe this unit is replacing but thankfully I was just performing a maintenance check it wasnt an actual emergency. According the the manufacturer the batteries are guaranteed to last a minimum of one year from the install date, some user reviews I've read Stated 2 years so far without replacement and they were still at 80% power. I haven't had the safe long enough to validate any of these findings but This is very good news if it holds true seeing a home defense weapon generally only comes out when you need it which may be a few times over the course of your life, the longer the battery life the better, just one less thing to be concerned about. As a note dont use the batteries that come with the unit, go out and buy some genuine Energizer Lithium-Ion batteries they tend to only come in 4-packs and cost a small fortune however, they will outlast any other battery on the market it's not a marketing gimmick they actually last 4xTimes longer when compared to standard NiCad, Nmh, etc. You might even get several years out of them providing that the safes electronics are designed well with minimum power drain. That's about it I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable hand gun safe where ease of access is a weighted premium over security. It's designed very well for exactly this purpose.

Awesome safe!
I bought this 6 and a half years ago and am just now having to replace the batteries that came with it. Very easy to set up the biometric access, and plenty of space. Love this safe and would highly recommend.

I just changed the 4 AA batteries after ~6 years.
This safe has served me well since 2017. Mine has multi-programmable fingerprint recognition and it takes 4 AA batteries. I was a little concerned initially about the batteries dying and me not being able to open it.It was beeping at me today so I know it was telling me it needed new batteries. Also,It comes with a key to open it if the batteries can’t.I normally access this safe about once a week or less. Not every day so there you have it.I just changed the batteries and it works like before.I didn’t have to reprogram the fingerprints.

Impressive responsiveness
I am highly impressed with the responsiveness of the fingerprint identification sensor that unlocks this safe! Compared to the "biometric" safe I replaced which was nearly impossible to program and even more impossible to open, this safe is going to be a pleasure to own. After unboxing, installing the included 4 AA batteries (even the battery cover door is metal, not plastic), and reading the instructions on how to "enroll" users and their fingerprints, I had my "Admin" fingerprint enrolled and then enrolled three other fingers under my user ID in less than 5 minutes. I had the safe lag-bolted through the bottom plate to a wall cabinet with the included hardware in another 5-7 minutes. I subsequently enrolled my wife's four fingerpirnts in just a few minutes. She was never able to successfully program her fingerprints in the safe I replaced. The sensor has not failed to verify any of the eight fingerprints and open the safe in nearly 50 opening efforts in the first hour following setup. We are 100% satisfied with this feature's reliability. The automatic locking mechanism is quiet and the automatic locking feature is rapid and flawless. I appreciate the several "alarms" and "alerts" that are built into the electronics. This is a quality product and deserving of the #1 rating it frequently receives. On the downside, as others have commented, the steel door could really be made of 1/4" plate, instead of 1/8" material, without any appreciable increase in cost (it's "assembled in China" after all). A sledge hammer blow or two centered on the door would probably be sufficient to deform it enough to open without much additional effort; a prybar and hammer might take a little longer. The fact is, however, no safe will stop the most determined burglar. But, I think the typical petty thief looking to steal stuff that can be carried away and converted into drugs will probably leave this one alone, even if in plain sight -- as long as it is bolted to something else relatively immovable (there are two holes in the rear panel for bolting to a wall, but without also bolting through the bottom plate, I don't think using the wall alone is a good idea -- there are four bolts included). The only other "negative" is the lack of protection inside the safe, such as padding in the bottom or interior surfaces. Instead of a sheet of foam for the bottom, there is a piece of material like shelf liner for bar glasses which does not really offer much protection -- I wouldn't put my pistols on it. The lag bolt heads are merely covered with this instead of protecting contents from any damage with a sheet of foam. I had a couple of pieces of 5/8" liner foam from a Pelican case that I trimmed to fit and secured with some double-stick tape. I will probably get some adhesive felt to line the inner side and rear wall surfaces as well.Overall, I am happy with this purchase (and 2-day Prime delivery) and enthusiastically recommend it to anyone looking for a "biometric' safe that actually works as it is advertised. That it does not have a "keypad" as a secondary opening method is a testament to Zvetco's trust in the reliability of the fingerprint sensor. Most thieves would probably defeat the security of a safe by trying the 1-2-3-4, 9-8-7-6, 0-0-0-0 or 5-5-5-5 common combinations that people are warned not to use.

Over 2.5 years and still can’t imagine a better gun safe!
This gun safe is beyond amazing. In the over 2.5 years we have had it, it had never failed to open on first try of scanning my, or my wife’s, fingers. It does the finger scan so quickly I can have the safe open in 3 seconds. I’ve tried to trick if with my own fingers that I haven’t programmed it to recognize and had other people try to scan their finger and it has never opened when it shouldn’t have. I’m still on the original set of batteries. I, and my wife, have 100% confidence this safe will open when we absolutely wed it to and that it will never let our kids, or anyone else we don’t want to have access to our handgun, or valuables, open it. And if someone does try, it will log an unauthorized attempt so we will know. Easy to program multiple fingers for it to recognize. I can’t think of anything bad about this gun safe. It it worth every penny. Even better it is made by a company in the USA.
