A Memory of Love: A Novel

Disgusted at a man who would sleep with his cousin's seconds
I was a bit put off in the beginning of the book when Rhonwyn watched her mother rutting with the Welsh prince. Something very disturbing about adults having sex openly in front of the a 5 year old. Rhonywn seemed very precocious for a 5 year old when she told the prince "she would haven't died if you hadn't put a baby in her belly by your constant rutting with her." That doesn't sound like the speech of a 5 year old.Since Rhonywn was an excellent solider I would have liked to see more of her battle skills showcased. I didn't expect Edward to turn out to be a cad. I was really unprepared by his quick change of heart. He searched for her a little while when she was captured and then grew angry. I know it was the custom back then to marry within one's family but I was very disgusted that he married his own cousin. I don't care that it's custom but to marry one's cousin is incestuous. I also found it disgusting that his cousin Rafe lusted after his cousin's wife and later married her. Talk about sharing the bedsheets. I don't care for the incestuous love play. If Rafe wasn't Edwards' cousin I would have liked him. His character was not very developed and seemed rather weak. I also found it unbelievable that his love making skills were on par with those of the caliph.*sigh* the harem story was over much too quickly. I would have loved to have known how the caliph reacted to Rhonywn's "death"

A memory of good romance.....
I've been reading books from this author since I was a teenager forty years ago starting with Skye O'Malley series, this is one I haven't gotten to yet. Loved it! Can't find a good sexy scene like this author writes that makes me melt. If this storyline would have made me cry, it would have five stars!

Wales wooes
The bastard daughter of the Prince of Wales is married to an English lord. She has problems having sex but when she gets kidnapped during a crusade she ends up in a harem hoping to get home to show her husband that she has overcome her fear. But then her problems just start.I had a problem with her husband. His change of heart seemed weird at first. Later on it is explained but to me it felt odd.

Great Read
Another great book by my FAVORITE author.....Trust me you won't be disappointed with any of her books....they are all well written with a great story line that will keep you reading all day! I am not like some of the people that give reviews and tell the story line...I think enough of it is given before you purchase the book and when you download the sample...I will just tell you I have been reading her books for over 30 years and have loved them all....my advise would be to start out with the Kadin and/or the Skye O'Malley Series....Happy Reading!

Good story.
I like the twist of love in the story. Instead of enjoying sex in the beginning, because what happened as child the heroine had to learn about what caused her problem before she could accept love.

A grand heroine.
Some characters you enjoy and some not. This brave lady was marvelous. Whales, the Middle East, England; you will travel in this book. Bravo, Bertrice Small.

Enjoyable book
This book covers the interaction of England and the Welsh who vie for sovereign leadership through the eyes of the princess of the Welsh. How she copes with her father and the English and her love of country leads the reader on a journey where she finds her hearts desire. Her love enables her to solve the complex problems which arise between both countries.

Totally historically Inaccurate on so many levels ! OUCH !
Having read the beginning of this books I am truly surprised this was allowed to be published ! The author has made no effort whatsoever to do her basic research on medieval times in Wales. It is painful reading which made me say NO NO NO, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG on a far too regular basis !1. Llywelyn ap Gruffydd would have had his mistress and her children by him live with him, who would automatcally been Welsh Princes and Princesses, illegitimate or not, as that made no difference to the Welsh, their laws were different from the Norman / English!2. The children would have been living as his heirs / children and taught as was due to their status as Wesh Prince / Princess, as they would be expected to marry for political gain.3. Even in an all male fortress, the men would have been church goers, as in those times there truly was a belief in hellfire etc, and the church and it's bells for different tomes of the day would have ruled their lives. They would have had a priest and a small chapel at the fort.4. Llywelyn would not have been called ap Gruffydd, that is a modern Americanism, which is totally wrong here. Llywelyn would surfice as a name.5. His children would have called him Father or My Lord, but not Tad.6. His mistress who not have been in a shameful position, but one of (a little) power and safety, living as a loved mistress in Llywelyn's various residences / homes, along side her children. She would not have been shamed by her village, neither would she be ousted and live alone not seeing anyone. In those days people did have to and were expected to go to church.7. Llywelyn would not have to "register" his children with the church, in just supporting the mother, he would be automatically (according to he Welsh laws of Howel Dda) be accepting them as his, again illegitimacy was never an issue in Wales. The Author need to read up on Medieval Welsh Laws on Howel Dda and on basic medieval ways in general.Do you homework and research the times you are writing on BEFORE writing rubbish! Fiction it is but it needs to be accurate to be believable for the times it's set in!
