Not just for pastels! Lovely paper for coloured pencils too!
I've been using this paper alongside Faber Castell Polychromos and Derwent Colorsoft pencils and have found the results with both to be very satisfying. I can get good, solid shades out of both pencil ranges. I primarily use polychromos which does very poorly on smooth papers like bristol board, but this paper has a very nice grain to it and I'm able to get nice results when blending colours and I don't find that the paper washes out the colours of the pencils at all. There is also a thin sheet of paper between every page to protect from smudges and transfers. My only complaint is that there isn't an easy way to pull out a sheet of paper, like you can in most sketchbooks, without using a pair of scissors to cut it out or cut off the part where the ring-binding holes are.

Good quality and tooth, but expensive.
Lovely selection of cool and warm colours. The chain-laid style paper is excellent with vine/willow charcoal, though I've yet to get the pastels out to test it out, but I suspect it will be similar. It really holds onto natural charcoal naturally, far better than any of my medium/rough cartridge paper. With fixative, you can keep working on layering those tonal gradations. It's a total nuisance that natural charcoal does not stay put, so finding this paper to work on has been a godsend for working those dark, dark tones. The reverse is smoother, which is a shame, since you can't work on the reverse. But, unlike others, it comes with a 'dust' cover to protect your work. Not sure if I'd buy it again. I will investigate toning my own ground, and achieving a rough tooth with 'pastel grounds medium' on heavy paper.

Great product as always from Daler Rowney.
Great product as always from Daler Rowney. Just wish I'd noticed that the pad is A3 size. Too big for me really. I suppose I could cut the sheets down but then I'd lose the benefit of the spiral binding. A bit annoyed with myself for not checking the size more carefully before I placed my order.

Great paper, unexpected colour range.
Watch this one....no dark blue or pale blue. It clearly states (on the pad) colours may vary, however, I'll stand in the shop next time to ensure I have the desired colour selection. If it doesn't matter, this is excellent paper used by both students and professional artists.
