I like how well made and sturdy this cane bolt is. I especially like that is has the built in stops to hold the handle up when opening and closing the gate. Comes with 8 hex screws and 2 brackets. The drop rod has pre drilled holes that can be used to lock the rod in the closed position. The instructions are thorough and helpful.

The product listing says for metal gates but my fence is wood supported by steel tubing. The mounting brackets that are included are 90 degree brackets that make it a bit difficult to mount directly to tube metal. I made it work but would have e preferred to see a flat bracket or maybe even a couple of included bracket options for various conditions. The rod is solid metal and heavy duty. The notches are a bit of a pain since they are spaced so close together but 180 degrees apart. It'll take some time to get used to the proper pull technique. Not a bad choice if you need a fence gate rod.

This bolt is much beefier than I expected, and the bolt and brackets are well built. I have no doubts that this bolt would hold a fairly heavy gate shut and would take quite a bit of rough handling and abuse. Surprisingly, the self-tapping hex-head mounting screws that are included are also adequate to lock the brackets tightly in place. The black finish appears thick, and does not appear that it would scratch off easily. I noted no scratches or other damage to the finish that arose during installation.I got this item to use in a bit of an unconventional manner. I have a wall with a sliding door inside of my chicken coop that separates the actual coop from a small staging/ storage area. The sliding door is a barn door type, and both the wall and door are basically a frame with wire mesh attached. I needed a way to secure the barn door so that I could keep the outside door open, unattended and be sure that the barn door would not be inadvertently opened and the chickens allowed to get loose. I was able to attach the cane bolt to the door and I made a wood block to attach to the floor that the bolt would fit into when locked. This configuration made the barn door solid and it would not move once the bolt was inserted into the hole.Final analysis, this is a heavy-duty bolt that I would recommend without hesitation.

My backyard gate latches up top, but our dog got out because he was able to push the bottom just enough to squeeze through. This SANKINS 18" Cane Bolt was the perfect solution. It adds the additional latching that was missing. What’s nice is that you can angle the top of the latch toward the gap in the gate so it can be opened from the outside. When I’m going in and out, I simply stick my fingers through and lift. Alternatively, you can turn it inward to prevent opening on the opposite side. I do that in times I want added security.Installing is simple (comes with written and visual instructions) so long as your gate has the proper wood needed to attach it to. Mine did not, so it took me a bit longer to add a 2x4. Also, I found that the bolt was OK going into dirt, but worked much better when burying a PVC pipe to more easily set into. It’s more secure and dependable this way, too.Overall, I am really pleased with this SANKINS 18" Cane Bolt. It’s solid, operates smoothly, and holds securely. It's the perfect solution for my gate issues and keeps my dog from getting out.

This cane bolt solid. Deeper lag screws would have done better, but that could also made for more problems for people not reinforcing their anchor points.Should have gone with a longer drop option as the gate opens a bit on a down hill slope. Was able to flatten the top bracket on the lower support to get the depth I needed. Instructions were easy to understand. Easy Install.Wish they would have included the metal tube to put in the ground. Was almost able to do the whole project without going to the hardware store...must be designed by someone who knows we are always looking for an excuse to go there anyways.

I ordered this gate bolt for a custom gate project I’m working on, and I’m really impressed with how strong it is. It comes with 2 mounting brackets that can be used on either side of the gate. I like that there are 4 locking positions for the drop rod. No complaints - very happy with the quality of this product and it will work well for my project!

I am building a pellet grill garage out on our patio. It will have a double door that swings to one side and had to be held open. This rod will do the trick going into a pvc tube. it is sturdy enough to stand up to our wind. It is easy to install and operate.

I'm using this as a stop/latch on a homemade barn door. It works perfectly. It stays up when I want it up and seats firmly when in the lowered position.The bolt is easy to install. You just have to make sure it's in the correct height for your purposes. The included bold screws are self tapping, so I didn't even have to pre-drill for them.I could even see using this horizontally as a locking mechanism for the barn doors.Its really heavy duty, and when mounted properly, I think it add a lot of security.
