Pure Nostalgia!
Really great book. I'm a little more than 1/2 way through reading everything and it's wonderful. LOTS of pictures. In fact, this is more of a picture book than one to read which I think is wonderful for this kind of thing. The photos bring back so many memories and makes me want to dig through my boxes of old pics to see if I can find any from my time there. The intro and blurbs had much information that I did not know about Nunley's and I never realized just how young I was when I experienced it. It closed down when I was only 12 and I had no idea it was around for so many decades before that! I laughed out loud to some of the little blurbs--like the Ferris wheel description: the highlight being that you can see the top of the roof of the restaurant--I thought me and my brother were the only ones who remember that or even knew or enjoyed giggling about that when we were kids! I still remember exactly what that roof looked like too. It was funny to see that the quirks my brother and I thought were funny and enjoyed when were were kids, were also what everyone else thought and experienced as well! It was awesome to see the photos of my favorite carousel horse that I just HAD to ride each time, remember my first ski-ball game and the fortune teller cards! I wish I still had some of mine. It was also fun to see the old pics of Baldwin as well. I miss Nunleys and the family fun it brought to a community. This book is a really great piece of history, art, and nostalgia from a little town on Long Island. If you loved Nunleys as a kid, as I and my family did, you MUST get this book.

A Lasting Tribute to place where many wonderful memories were created...
The book entitled Images of America: Nunley's Amusement Park, is a wonderful tribute to the place were many a memory was created. The black & white photos collected and contained within the pages are just a wonderful overview and snapshot of days gone by. The captions and stories are very personal, captivating, and interesting. Located in Baldwin, New York many towns surrounding the area unofficially adopted it as their own, but none more than Freeport whose High School was located right on its border. Nunley's Amusement Park was our small Disneyworld located right in our backyard. The author Marisa Berman captured all of its most treasured memories, stories and created what can be considered the ultimate "Playbill/Program" for the ages, which can now be passed down for generations to come. My family had three generations ride inside the park and four generations ride the magical and famous 100 year carousel. The inclusion of my families memories in words and photos was just such a honor and using the memories from many of those that experienced Nunley's throughout the years of operation makes the book very personal as well as very accurate. A must read for anyone who ever visited there or anyone who just loves amusement parks, because Nunley's was a real slice of American History "Pie" and it was right in our backyard, a family business that extended to thousands and generations.

Enjoyable going down memory lane
I'm so happy I purchased this book. It's well put together and really brings me down memory lane. I grew up going to Nunley's Carosel and Amussement Park in Baldwin, NY. It is well organized and the photos and memories fun to browse through. I leave it on my coffee table for company to enjoy, too...and they do! A very good read.

A journey to the past
Growing up in Brooklyn and then moving to Long Island Nunleys was a big part of my childhood. It is not to be unexpected as one of my Dad's aunt's family ran an amusement park in Coney Island and for a while we lived off the Rockaway boardwalk. Through out the year as teenagers we rode our bikes to Nunleys, to play the miniature golf course or ride the carousel. The book's text is not important but the photos are. Even when you don't find yourself in them you can imagine yourself a part of them. It helps that I actually have movie footage of our child riding the carousel I did growing up. If you care to you can find the video at http://youtu.be/G2r9dcGALdYA midst the teenage angst of the 1970s Nunleys and the book are both remidners of how good those times could be. It is worth losing one's self in it.
