Of course light and dark are relative terms, but I would call them medium dark. A bit darker than a typical maple but lighter than a black walnut.

Would this be a good spoon rest?

It’s larger than a typical spoon rest and I’m not sure that the wood would stand up to repeat washing. I used for a candy dish and then a place to put keys and such on a table in my foyer.
