Matter-enabled sensor works well with Google Home and Home Assistant
Unlike the Homekit version, the Matter-enabled version of Eve's motion sensor works straight out of the box with Google Home. I used a Nest Hub (2nd gen) as a Thread Border Router and, after inserting the batteries, the sensor was recognised immediately and a quick scan of the Matter QR code (using the Google Home app) completed the registration process. Two separate sensors then appear in Google Home - a motion sensor and a light sensor. Disappointingly, whilst both sensors work, they don't appear to be currently supported as triggers when creating a Google Home automation.Fortunately, the motion and light sensors can be linked from Google Home to Home Assistant where - provided you've installed the Thread and Matter add-ons - both work fine and can be used as triggers or conditions in HA automations. The battery level of the sensor is also accessible within Home Assistant.

Works great in Apple Home
Much more powerful when used in HomeKit automations than the competition. These are the ones to get if you’re invested in an Apple Home setup.

Works With Home Assistant
I connect 2 of the Eve motion sensor to Home Assistant straight away through Google WIFI Pro, has had a solid connection since installing in my garden, the only thing is that the sensor keep going off, with cars going by, trees waving in the breeze, you get the idea, because there's no way to set coverage, all you can do is tilt the device, but that's easier said the done, as there is no stand, just a very small screw mount. Would I buy again probably not.

unreliable and expensive
This was purchased to cover our driveway and switch on the lights as you approach the house as it was one of the few outside rated motion sensors. It regularly looses connection to the equally expensive and unreliable apple homepod which, unfortunately is necessary as a thread border router that exposes the device to the rest of my smart home ecosystem. The sensor and homepod are separated by a wall, but less than 1 metre from each other. This has resulted in multiple resets of both the sensor and homepod and its become so frustrating the frequency of this necessary action to gain to control. It now completely refuses to connect to the Amazon Echo, despite having done so previously via the sharing code generated by the homepod. Given the Apple Home app and integration is perhaps the worst half hearted attempt at a smart home ecosystem possible and when integrated with the awful homepod means connecting the eve motion sensor to it is pointless. I have typically relied on Home Assistant and Alexa to run automations, and whilst I have the eve sensor connected to home assistant it seems to rely on the stupid homepod and often goes offline. I think it's more to do with the Matter/Thread integration which is the problem, but the reliance on the Homepod is very much the weakest link here so unfortunately because of this it makes the device unusable. There are must better and considerably cheaper sensors available so don't buy the expensive one thinking you are going to get a better product because in this instance you don't

Works with Homekit
After returning an Aqara sensor which would not work with HomeKit this one has worked straight away. Simple tweak has got it working at night only and turns on and off with presence detection. I am very pleased. It would be nice to have some better mounting options but it’s a minor gripe.

The ideal motion sensor for HomeKit / Thread
So far this seems to be working perfectly for me. If you are using HomeKit with a HomePod or Apple TV then Eve Motion doesn't require a bridge and just works out of the box (once you've put the batteries in). It feels well made and does everything it's supposed to in the way I expect. I'm very impressed with it.

Set up issues
The only advice I can give is patience. The device is good if you manage to persevere with the setup. The Eve app itself failed to set it up at all - after several iPhone restarts and sensor device hard resets (using pin in battery compartment). Then I thought I would restart all HomePods in my house and all Apple TVs (all thread devices). No luck. Tried installing directly via HomeKit on iPhone no luck. I finally repeated everything as before, and tried using my iPad (no luck with Eve app again, but managed to finally set it up via Apple home app/homekit on ipad). There is zero logic to this, so just keep playing around. Eve really should be easier, it is a premium device and matter is supposed to solve connection troubles. And yes, all firmware was up to date, that wasn’t the issue. I should also mention this is review is for a replacement I ordered as first one drained batteries flat in 2 days - clearly faulty. I hope this one proves to be a good purchase, time will tell. But in my experience Eve devices aren’t worth the premium. There are better and more cost effective options out there.
