As good as the 'household name' version
I bought the speedlite for macro photography (that's what it's designed for). The Canon version was much more expensive, so I thought I'd give this product a try. It works extremely well, and is, in my opinion, just as good as Canon's. The speedlite is easy to use. (I know my way around Canon's speedlites and the control buttons work in the same way. Also, the flash settings can also be fully controlled from the camera's flash setting menu). The two flash heads have very bright LEDs for setting up the shot and focussing. The flash control (that sits on the hot shoe of the camera) seems a little heavy, but I don't find that a problem. An external battery pack can be plugged in to the controller. For me that's a bonus because I may take several images of a subject for focus stacking. The flash ratio can be easily adjusted between the two flash heads to give a 'modelled' light. The speedlite is a doddle to use. I am not disappointed with this 'budget' macro speedlight in any way - it's great value for money and works extremely well.

This does work 100% with the Canon 7D mk2
Had this some time now, used to have a Canon MT‑24EX which cost a SILLY amount of money. This unit does exactly the same as the Canon version and cost me £129 .... NO BRAINERDespite what one of the earlier reviews says it does work 100% with the Canon 7D mk2, I know because I have oneExcellent bit of kit √√√√√√√√√√√√√ ;-)

Excellent budget flash option for Canon macro work
I own 4 macro lenses for the Canon EOS system and am a semi-pro plant, garden and macro wildlife photographer with hundreds of images published. My standards are, and need to be, high. However, I work on a budget, and cannot afford the Canon macro twin flash. So the Yongnuo twin flash appealed for price alone. I've now taken a few hundred shots with it and managed to produce a small percentage of saleable images. This is not a criticism of the flash. Field macro work usually produces a low percentage of high quality images whatever system is being used. It's the nature of the beast. The twin flash heads fit to a ring that in turn fits onto an adaptor that screws into the lens filter thread. Simple, and fairly effective, although the ring turns too easily on the adaptor and the adaptors supplied didn't fit the filter size of two of my lenses. I had to purchase a set of step up rings to allow my other macro lenses to use the system. They're cheap enough but check before you order. The ring rotation I'm dealing with with a bit of blue tack but it would be better if it was a bit tighter. The flash exposure is either manual or ETTL with Flash exposure Compensation (FEC). I've tried both and both work well. The ETTL is not the latest (ETTL-2) Canon protocol but does the job although it does require variable stops of FEC. I'm often using 2 stops at 1:1 and closer with a Tamron 90mm macro lens on my Canon 80D.I particularly like the ability to quickly detach the flash heads from the ring and attach them to the sides of the flash control unit. It makes changing lenses simpler and also provides a reasonable fill flash facility when used with non macro lenses. As with the front of the lens mounting the flash units can be moved to different positions giving flexibility in lighting arrangements. I haven't yet tried the flash heads off both the macro flash ring or the flash control unit though I suspect that the stiffness of the connecting coiled cable might cause a few problems with lightweight supports. The other major problem is diffusion. The flash heads lighting ratio can easily be set from the control unit and works well to produce modelling effects. But it would be nice if Yongnuo made available some diffusion adaptors to soften the light. Many insects have shiny, reflective surfaces and the naked flash units produce hot spots. Then again, so does the Canon equivalent and ring lights are no better.Build quality is excellent. Nice and solid, the flash heads click into the cold shoes on the ring or the control unit with a positive click, the angle adjustments of the heads are very positive, the LED modelling lights are excellent (I must try them for video), and the whole unit seems built to last.I'd like to give 4.5 for the overall score but 4 is the only option. I'll look again after a few thousand shots.

Purchased as a macro kit along with two mini ball heads. Works well and would suggest to others. This was purchased following a review from a pro macro photographer.
