So, I wrestled with this and Openwrt because I wanted to build my own router using a Raspberry Pi 5. It's done now. I have this dongle serving as the 5 ghz AP radio and a Panda PAU0B dongle as my 2.4 ghz AP radio. This adapter is capable of tremendous speeds even on 5 ghz (where I'm using it.) I'm getting 1200 mb connections about 30 ft. away though two sheet rock walls in AX mode. If you have devices capable of 6ghz reception I'm sure it will work very well there too. Here are some tips to save you a lot of time. Keep in mind that a USB dongle can ONLY work as an AP on one band at a time. They can attach as a CLIENT to more than one, but as an AP radio you only get ONE band per dongle. If you need 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz APs you need TWO dongles. Let this be your only USB 3 attached Wi-fi dongle. If you put a second Wi-fi dongle on the other USB 3 port they will interfere with each other and cause device disconnections. If you need another dongle to cover the 2.4 ghz band put it on one of the USB 2 ports. Also, use extension cables to keep the dongles physically separated from each and the Pi itself aka don't plug Wi-fi dongles directly into the ports. Also, even if you only have one dongle an extension cable will keep interference from the Pi internal Wi-fi radio down. THIS dongle will ONLY run properly with an actual USB 3.2 gen 2 extension cable. It comes with that, but I was not happy about the USB C to A adapter it uses. I found it to very touchy and cause physical disconnections with the slightest bump. I bought a one piece cable (USB 3.2 to C) and it totally fixed the issue. If you are going to use this with Openwrt all the drivers are available in the software section under the Admin tab. Load the mt7921 stuff and the mt760x stuff. Finally, make sure you are running a power supply to the Pi with at least 26w of power. I'm using a 43w power supply. These dongles can consume a lot of power at full data rates. You Pi can run on less for other jobs, but for a wi-fi router make sure it has lots of available power. All that said, my setup is now rock solid and it's been up for days on end with no problems.

I use this in combination with a GL.iNet GL-MT3000 travel router to rebroadcast a local wifi signal on my own SSID - this allows me to avoid having to log every device into the network, solves the incompatibility of Chromecasts with hotel captive portal setups, and have all of the connected clients tunnel through a VPN even if they don't directly connect to the VPN themselves. This plugs into the router's USB port, and connects to the local site AP, while all clients connect to the MT3000. This device is supported well in OpenWRT's master branch (and maybe the 23.x releases?) The only minor issue, and it's kind of a known quantity for Alfa's high-power long-range units, is that it's a power hog and will not work reliably with the MT3000 using that router's stock power supply which is undersized - you need to inject extra power into the system to have it be stable. But that's more of an issue with the MT3000 than this product.

First of all, I would like to highlight the excellent work of Amazon and DHL. They are truly a wonderful team. The package arrived within 2 to 3 days maximum from the USA to Morocco. Regarding the AWUS036AXML: The device is beautiful and well built, but I find it less effective than my old RT3070, which was plug and play, required no driver installation, and had better long-range signal reception. The AWUS036AXML driver really needs an update. I hope that Windows will integrate its driver directly in the future. That said, it is still a reliable Wi-Fi card with solid overall performance. 👉 I recommend it.

This is a mix bag review it has 5 starts because It works and it worked with windows 10, and it worked well. But I got it to use on my lcd steam deck. And even though I got it to work on my steamdeck I only got it to work on my steamdeck using lower grade USB cables. Any higher end Cable would work long enough to detect WiFi networks but then would quickly crash. Forcings the deck to reboot. And the only way I found around this was to use low-end charge cables. But then I would end up with another issue if I unplug the WiFi adapter the steam deck would still crash. I suspect these issues to be driver related. But since I'm not tech savvy enough to debug Linux. I'll just have to wait till newer instances of steamos come out hopefully with driver fixes and updates for this WiFi adapter. I have had Alfa USB adapters in the past and had no issues with them. I have been pleasantly happy it is disappointing that this one is giving me issues. But it's probably driver issues baked in to a very niche device. So I can't blame Alfa

Despite repeated attempts over two days, this device was never fully functional on Debian/Ubuntu. No matter how many drivers I downloaded and installed via the mfr's website support pages (which shouldn't have been necessary because the drivers should be native to the kernel), Linux refused to recognize it. Tried on two different machines and different Debian distros without success. Some forums suggest that the device absolutely requires USB 3.1 to function, although this is not spelled out in the specs and I found it the USB port series made no difference. The box contained a card that urged dialing customer support for help, but the phone was never answered despite multiple attempts. Doesn't work and no customer support. I can't return because the Amazon window is closed, so I'm out $60+. Alfa is history for me.

I can not give this enough praise. It operates in monitor mode, covers all available bands and channels, and works with almost any operating system. It allows scanning for more than just WIFI with the correct free programs. This is a dream for learning. It is the only USB adapter I would recommend.

Yes it works out of the box with Kali Linux. For windows, I had to hunt down the drivers on Alfa website. Yes this can do everything you want it to for “testing”. My only complaint is the range sucks. Not much better than the WiFi adapter in my Laptop.

Hé bien franchement je suis agréablement surpris de cette adaptateur USB Alpha AWUS036AXML il est Tri-Bandes 2.4 GHz/ 5 GHz/ 6 GHz - 3 Gbps. Par contre il faut dire que j'ai fait beaucoup de recherche avant de me décider a prendre celui-ci il est actuel est compatible Windows 11. Enfin je retrouve la joie du jeux en réseaux que je connaissait pas entre 5 à 7 de ping est je suis en Wi-Fi (802.11n) avec une bande passante impressionnante de 104/78 (Mbps) avant c'était pas possible de jouer j'avais le Wi-Fi G. Pour vous faire une idée le modem est aux rez-de chaussée je suis au premier étage séparer d'une dalle en béton est un mur épais il y a bien environ 30 mètre mais chose étonnante je reçoit internet comme ci j’étais tout près du Box modem. Je lui ai rajouté une rallonge de 2 mètre 3 en tout pour qu'il capte encore mieux il est presque collé a la porte d’entré de la chambre, n'hésiter pas prenez celui-ci vous ne serez pas déçu.

Tested this wifi adapter card and can confirm that it works on Kali Raspberry Pi 4/5/Zerow2 out of the box. No need to install flaky drivers as there is Linux in-kernel drivers.

It works perfectly in (monitor mode and injection/kali linux and works well on win10
