AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D has been an excellent CPU and one of the best upgrades I’ve made to my gaming PC. Gaming performance is fantastic, especially in CPU-heavy and competitive games where maintaining high and consistent frame rates really matters. The 3D V-Cache makes this processor especially well suited for gaming, and it pairs extremely well with a higher-end GPU. I’ve been able to push high refresh rates at 1440p without feeling like the CPU is holding the rest of my system back. Performance has also been very consistent, with great 1% lows and smooth gameplay. Another thing I’ve appreciated is that you don’t need an absurd cooling setup to get great performance out of it. Once my system was configured properly, it has been stable and reliable for long gaming sessions. Eight cores and sixteen threads also give it enough horsepower that normal multitasking, Discord, browsing, and other programs running alongside games aren’t an issue. There are newer processors available now, but the 7800X3D remains an incredibly capable gaming CPU. If you can find one at a good price and you’re building an AM5 system primarily for gaming, it’s still very easy to recommend.

It pairs perfectly with high‑end GPUs and handles heavy multitasking without breaking a sweat. If you want a CPU that just works and delivers top‑tier gaming numbers, this is it. Overall, a five‑star gaming processor — fast, efficient, stable, and still the benchmark for smooth gameplay.

I'm writing this review with the new 9000 series right around the corner, to make sure that people still consider the Ryzen 7 7800X3D as a viable upgrade to their gaming systems. I'm coming from a previous system of a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 4080 Super, which, while playable, was one where I could clearly tell that my RTX 4080 Super couldn't properly stretch its legs. I see people mention the fast processing power of the 7800X3D, and while this is true (I can't state enough just how much snappier my system feels in comparison to the 5600X even when not playing games), I'd also like to mention what made the 7800X3D such a great upgrade for me. In many of my games, while, again, I had a playable experience with the 5600X, in areas with heavy NPCs or geometry, my system really started to struggle, with a strong sense of choppiness and stutter, in a way where I would dread going to those areas, sticking to more open areas in games, instead. With the 7800X3D, that fear is a thing of the past, and I believe that in addition to its sheer processing power, that's also due to the much more consistent 1% and 0.1% fps lows that I experience with the 7800X3D. It's obviously not something you can point to and go "wow, look at all the fps I'm getting!", like we gamers like to do. But it is something that has an immediate noticeable effect in games. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 fully maxed out (especially in the new Dogtown area) simply feel so much smoother, and the same goes for Horizon Forbidden West's Burning Shores DLC area, that is incredibly heavy with notably complex architecture geometry. So, while some maybe might argue that there was no point in me upgrading with the 9000 series right around the corner, or that I could have just gotten a 5800X3D instead, I'd say this. While yes, I could have gotten a 5800X3D, I figured at the very least that I should upgrade to the new platform, and get all of the benefits of PCIE 4.0 (I was previously on a much older system), and DDR5 RAM guaranteed in the future, as well as a viable upgrade path. Which brings me to my next point. Even though the 9000 series will be arriving soon, if you're like me, and you enjoy enthusiast 1440p gaming while still preferring to upgrade every other generation (it just makes the most sense to me financially), I plan on sticking with my 7800X3D until the series after 9000 is fully released. By that time, I'll likely be ready for the RTX 6000 series, and a proper CPU upgrade right alongside it. The uplift it has brought my system is just fantastic, and I just can't see the 7800X3D being outdone before that time! Many games I'm looking forward to in the farther future, like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, don't currently recommend anything close to it. I don't believe it would be a mistake to purchase the 7800X3D right now, unless you're absolutely dying to be on the cutting edge of the new generation of tech. But that's also just my feeling and opinion; of course, I'm sure Hardware Unboxed and the like will have their own thorough educated reviews comparing what we have available, when all is said and done. Personally, I just didn't want to wait through any potential growing pains with the 9000 series that have been all ironed out here already, and my experience with the games I enjoy currently was frustrating enough that I also didn't want to wait for the 9000 series X3D variants to be released, as well. I genuinely wanted improvements now, so the purchase was worth it for me! As far as my own experience with Amazon, no problems here. I had to give a password to the delivery driver in-person before they would hand over the package, which I deeply appreciated. When you're dealing with things this expensive, I believe it should be a must. It arrived in its own original packaging, and when paired with my Scythe Mugen 6 Dual Fan cooler, and the Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX motherboard, it has been running like a dream, both in the games I've mentioned, as well as with general work and recreation. I just wanted to give my thoughts and opinion in case anyone is on the fence about purchasing at this time like I was. Hopefully you found this review helpful!

By far the greatest cpu on the market. It runs cool and you can literally use the stock cooler or get any $30 dollar cooler off amazon and you would be chilling this thing is a beast for gaming especially with the 3d cache just making it 10x times better for gaming it is definitely worth it if your looking to upgrade your gaming rig for a value but is also getting what your paid for the stability is good the drivers are up to date theres no driver issues I definitely recommend this cpu to anyone looking for a budget 3d cache cpu. I use it for games and I never have any issues it allows for great graphics and smooth gameplay and can also multitask watch youtube and have any other applications open it is very stable.

If you are on the fence about getting this CPU, just do it. I upgraded from a Ryzen 7 7700 because it was my bottleneck on some games. I instantly noticed massive gain in FPS and just all around responsiveness. It also feels more stable when its really taking on a load. This thing is a beast. As far as temps go, its actually running cooler than my 7700 did, typically sitting around 60c with a load (AIO water cooler) when my 7700 sat around 70c

Great cpu (7800x3d)! It has handled every game I have thrown at it. Started with a massive heat sink which worked great but I swapped it out with a water cooled system due to the air cooler being to bulky and taking up space (not the look I was going for, not due to performance). I really have no complaints except that cyber punk would freeze up but I can be sure if it was my undervolt settings or the gpu spiking the frame rate during the pause menu. The game works great after I change some thing around on the graphics settings. I will revert back to the undervolt soon to verify. I mostly game, heavy rpgs like crimson desert, cyber punk, any survival game. You can't go wrong with this one. Gpu is a xfx7900xt 20gb vram paired with 32gb 30cl memory. Samsung evo 2tb ssd gen4. Loading screens to fast to read hints. Most games run 4k at dang near utra settings around 70 fps, above 100 fps on 1440p. I really can't find anything wrong with is cpu. I could not be happier with it. Make sure to update bios and ai can help you with undervolting and other changes in bios for get the most out of this cpu.

I built my system around the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and have been very satisfied with it. Paired with my RTX 5070 and DDR5 memory, the system feels extremely responsive and handles demanding gaming and everyday workloads without becoming the weak point of the build. Installation on AM5 was straightforward and the complete system has been stable in my use. Excellent gaming-focused processor and easily one of my favorite components in the build.

I recently upgraded to this CPU from an i5-13600K, I mainly use my PC for Gaming and Streaming, mainly Fortnite at high refresh rate, my 13600K would often drop below 200Fps while streaming and causing stutters, this one rarely ever drops below that, only in the most intense of situations but unlimited it gives me 300-480FPS on average sometimes higher reaching 600 and 700 depending where on the map. I was in between getting this 7800x3D or the i7-14700K but seeing how many users reported degradation issues with intel 13th and 14th gen, I decided to go the safer route which was the 7800x3D CPU, it shreds through gaming and it does gracefully & efficiently by consuming less energy, it's very energy efficient stock and I heard it can be even more efficient/cool with a little undervolting done the safe/right way, it could sustain higher boost clocks! I paired this CPU with the MSI B650 Tomahawk Wifi and Teamgroup's 32GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 for those who are curious, Expo worked like a charm, PC spent around a minute memory training during first boot, from button press to lock screen it takes around 25-30 seconds on a relatively slow 2.5'' SSD from Crucial 300-500mb/s (nvme ssds have at least 3500mb/s read/write nowadays) also I have fast startup enabled. Something to keep in mind is, due to the 3D Cache in this CPU, the main sensor your motherboard will be reading from this CPU is: CPU (Tctl/Tdie), by design it's made to be higher than all your other core temps, there is no issue with that as it's by design and normal, but I mention this so you don't get worried when you notice your CPU fan cooler fans ramping up a bit often, that sensor reports around 10-15C higher than all other cores, so it's something to keep in mind! You can still adjust fan curve in BIOS according to this and you'll be fine. I live in a hot climate so fans ramp up a bit but it's normal and still safe. Monitor temps and clock/frequencies with HWiNFO64, If you are like me and came from an intel CPU previously, the software Core Temperatures will not report individual core temperatures like it did with Intel CPU's. Just a heads up there. All in all, 10/10, this CPU was an investment and I'm really enjoying what it brings to the table!

Chose the 7800X3D as the 9800X3D was just too expensive for the bump in performance. After liquid cooling it via AIO, it's runs cool. Idle temps at 40, never going above 75 for intensive stuff.
