Some minor drawbacks, but overall excellent camera
I was sent his camera to review and put it through its paces. I have used a friends Sony ZV-E10 before and was keen to see what improvements had been made since that was released. Pros: Compact and Lightweight: The ZV-E1 retains its compact and lightweight design, making it an ideal for on-the-go vlogging. It's perfect for capturing candid moments without lugging around heavy gear, which is a major plus if you’re capturing video for weddings in really random locations like I do. 4K60p Video: One of the most significant improvements from the E10 I tried is the ability to shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. This means smoother and detailed footage, which is brilliant for creating high-quality content – the results pre-edit are far superior to any other camera I have owned or borrowed. 12.2 Megapixels Sensor: While the megapixel count hasn't changed from the ZV-E10, the sensor has been optimised to deliver better overall image quality, especially in low light conditions – this has held up well in the low light settings I have tested it out in. 5-Axis and Digital Stabilisation: The combination of in-body 5-axis stabilization and advanced digital stabilisation is a great feature and basically means you can shoot handheld and still get great results. Improved Autofocus: The ZV-E1 features enhanced autofocus capabilities, which did a great job of tracking everything and keeping things in sharp focus. This is a definite improvement on the previous version I tried out. Vari-Angle Touchscreen: The touchscreen is perfectly designed for vloggers and videographers – it just makes everything easy to access and set up. It's a step up from the fixed screen on the ZV-E10 and I’m really happy this was included. Cons: Limited Lens Compatibility: Like its predecessor, the ZV-E1 only supports APS-C lenses. While this keeps the camera compact, it might limit your options if you're looking for specific lenses. Battery Life: While the battery life is decent, you might want to keep an extra battery handy for longer shooting sessions. No view finder: On very bright days outdoors this becomes a problem. Overall, the Sony ZV-E1 is a fantastic choice for vloggers, content creators and videographers looking for a compact and lightweight camera with impressive video capabilities and stabilisation. It has so many features it would be difficult to cover them all - while it shares similarities to previous releases, the upgrades in video quality, stabilisation, make this worth the upgrade, imo.

Almost Perfect Camera
This Sony ZV-E1 is very similar to the FX3 but is for about half the price. It has the same processor and sensor as the A7S III & FX3 so produces and very similar image quality. The rolling shutter and dynamic range are both the same, while the 4K24 performance are about identical as well. It also the same Dual ISO’s. It does not however have EVF or Cine EI mode capabilities, and its log shooting is limited to Flexible ISO. It also does not have a mechanical shutter so is designed more for video than photos as it has fewer photo-centric functions. The main differences between this camera and the FX3 is the size, ports, and heat disbursement, as well as the fact that it only has one memory card slot. However, it does contain a 3.5mm headphone jack, the USB port supports charging and live streaming, and the HDMI port is a micro-Type-D. The microphone is directional which means it can be set to record from the front, sides or rear which is quite useful, as I’ve been able to avoid unwanted sounds with that feature along with the included dead cat to help against wind and outside noise. It also has an AI auto-mode which is omnidirectional and will change automatically to focus for the best sound. The AI chip in this ZV-E1 is the same as the A7R5, making the subject detection features very dynamic, while the autofocus is very similar as well. The stabilisation and the clear image zoom (digital zoom) have both been vastly improved, and the camera has been upgraded to track main points so to not lose focus while recording. The new dynamic active feature makes stabilisation even better however it does crop 30% of the view but is still some of the best in camera stabilisation I’ve seen in a Sony camera. I am very impressed by the improved stabilisation feature which allows the upgrade of lens by simply just attaching them to the camera and pressing zoom. The improved clear imagine zoom is also very impressive, as I can now zoom into things while recording, without losing my video focus and maintaining a clear and vivid focused detective tracking and stabilisation. The LCD screen does have some new features from the previous models including swipe from the side to bring up extra control buttons and you can control exposure and white balance using touch. This ZV-E1 is small but designed with a smooth finish and functions just as well, while also being an eco-friendly high-tech device. The FX-100 battery is great and works best in temperatures below 22 degree Celsius, as I experienced a bit of overheating when I used the ZV-E1 in Spain versus in the UK as it does not have the same thermal capabilities as the other model. I’d say the biggest difference I have noticed is the heat disbursement. Forgetting the chance of overheating, this is the smallest full frame camera that Sony currently makes, and it is perfect for VLOGing on the go, as it has a small portable hand-held design. Overall, there are too many features to list but this Sony ZV-E1 definitely one of the best cameras I’ve used lately, and it is an almost perfect VLOGing camera. The main thing I see that requires improvement is the heat dissipation over long use. When I use it for videos of about 20 to 30 mins, I have no issues at all, and have found that the main heating issues happen when using the camera for over 90mins in hot temperatures. It is a great camera at a very good price, and I would surely recommend.

A bit advanced for me
I got this camera with the intention of using it as a point and shoot camera with the occasional video thrown in, but it is very advanced from the old camera we use at the moment. The camera is lightweight, with loads of features I probably won't know how to use, but I am really liking the dynamic stabilization so all videos are smooth to watch back without the jittery look to them. It has an AI chip installed for great vlogging as it keeps the person being filmed in shot and in focus, an improvement on most cameras. I haven't really tried all its functions as I am going through the manual slowly, but from what I have seen so far it is an amazing piece of kit which would really suit a serious vlogger. At £2,149.00 at the time of writing this review, it is a very expensive camera, which I think is a great buy for someone who has a good grasp of the way technology and cameras are evolving, with the world of vlogging and such.

Amazing Camera
Excellent quality mirrorless camera from Sony made from excellent materials. This is my first Sony camera or ever using Sony, I mostly use Canon so I found this a bit of a steep learning curve but more from the point of using the menu system and where everything is, so if you are like me keep persevering you will get the hang of it. I have been using this camera for just under two months and left the review this long so I can do this camera justice and it is an amazing camera. I mostly do photography so will be focusing on that there will be other reviews here that use it as a vlogging camera and will do a better job than me, vlogging/videography is something I plan to use the camera for later on. The camera is 12.2MP which is not a huge amount but It depends on where you will be using the photos, if you will be using them on social media sites or printing them to standard size this is still more than good enough. It is only really if you plan on printing on large canvas, billboards etc which most of us will never be doing you will need more megapixels (MP). The photo quality is excellent I have no complaints about it. The camera to me personally is very lightweight coming in at a total weight including battery at 483g this will make a big difference if you plan on using it on a gimbal or even when using for long periods of time. I have been using the 28-60mm lens it is lightweight and excellent build, again I struggled at first with the lens as I tend to always have a 24-105mm lens on my Canon so I have gotten lazy, with this lens I have to physically move closer or further back to get the shots I want BUT I do like this it makes me think more about the shot and move more which is always a good thing. Lens starts at F4-5.6 depending on what mm you zoom the lens to so this is a good starting lens. There is enough auto mode on the camera for a beginner but if you want more control you can use in in manual mode which I have been doing and as expected you can shoot in RAW format also. There is no viewfinder on this camera which took me a bit of time to get use to I kept wanting to look through it BUT not having this helps to keep the weight down and as you will more than likely be using this as a vlogging camera this is not needed. Has an articulating LCD screen the display quality is excellent. I do find when taking photos for long periods of time the camera does get a little warm BUT not camera crashing hot. A minor grumble I have is it only supports one memory card I would have liked to to support dual cards BUT this is just me being fussy and not a game changer for me personally my Canon camera also only supports one memory card. Overall I am very happy with the Sony ZV-E1 it is a bit on the expensive side but you can’t argue with the quality and I would definitely recommend it.

Amazing
Positives Small in size, but feels comfortable to hold, and made with recycled materials Flip out LCD screen is great, and can swipe from the sides to bring up extra options (or can turn this off in the menu) Amazingly good stabilization Internal Hardware of a camera costing maybe double the price, and with more features Crystal clear photographs and video with full frame imagery Cinematic Vlog Setting Interchangeable lens Connects to your smartphone for easier content uploading Negatives Looks a little plastic-y/cheapy compared with other cameras Can overheat a little if using it for shooting longer videos, or in hotter temperatures Overall, an amazing camera. More suited for Vloggers/Content Creators, but with enough features to keep anyone happy.

Sony Delivers Pretty Much Everything A Vlogger Could Want
"Vlogging" used to be a bad-word to some photographers, with the idea of using your DSLR to record high-end video being... a bit strange. But times have changed and cameras like this full frame mirrorless "Sony ZV-E1" with 4K recording and loads of cinematic settings, can produce spectacular results. This camera is really made with film-making in mind. It is designed and dedicated more for video than it is photography, which is fair enough considering that is what it is being advertised as. It aims to be the master of one trade rather than just ticking all the boxes. Recording 4K video (most I tried at 60fps) gives amazing results- even straight from camera, and so far I've had no need to edit anything in post-production. There are different modes, settings and variations to play around with in the camera to begin with, and I would suggest really getting to know these so you can get the best from the Sony. I would also recommend you update the firmware as it does make a few small changes, and its good to see Sony quickly addressing a few minor bugs (or what I presume were minor bugs). One of the most surprising things I found (other than the video quality) was that the autofocus on this camera is amazing and blows my (granted much cheaper) Fujifilm S-X10 out the water in this regard. It's just so fast, so accurate and excels at face and eye detection, but also gives more focus points you can shake a stick at should you be using manual. There is sadly no view-finder on this camera, and sadly that seems to be going the way of the dinosaurs. I still personally like using one, granted more for photography then vlogging and would have preferred one (again personal preference). Its a "smart" mirrorless camera, not just with its dedicated AI chip, but also because it can easily connect to your smartphone through an app to give you additional freedom such as being able to stream without having to add or download anything extra. Despite all the power and capability under the lens, it still remains lightweight and pretty compact as a mirrorless should. The age of carrying (or struggling to carry) large camera systems is thankfully over. I've had no issues with heat that has affected some other cameras and manufacturers at times. The battery life is sufficient for me personally, it's not the best I've seen but it is also far from the worst. Again, it beats my Fujifilm S-X10 and my Canon easily but I would still say it is worth investing in a few spares. I would have also preferred dual memory card slots but this is forgivable. Obviously with 4K video I would say don't skip on the memory card and get something that won't let you down. You don't necessary (in my opinion need a UHS-II version), but I'd say something like the SanDisk Extreme Pro (U3 200Mb) which is what I've got and has worked nicely (and also won't break the bank.) Simply put, this Sony is stunning. You pay a lot, but you get a lot, and I could find very little to fault. What it gives you in terms of video quality, stabilisation, creativity, future-proofing, build quality (I could go on) will surely keep the most demanding vlogger extremely happy. It really is worth considering.

not fit for purpose
I bought this camera as a backup camera for my a7s iii but what the influencers don't tell you is that there is no RAW output. Nor do the colours match! Yes you read that right - no matter how many manual settings that are set identically (colour temp, picture profile, creative look, white balance etc.) I cannot get reds looking the same as my a7s iii. Bizarrely, photo's match, just not video! I was planning on shooting with picture profile off and DRO set manually to brighten the image in order to simplify matters and do everything in camera instead of sitting, squinting in front of a computer for months. Why I condemn this product though is the complete lack of customer service from sony. It's impossible to log a complaint or speak to an agent in spite of there being very deceptively a 'contact us' link - IMPOSSIBLE! All you can do is sign up to a forum, which is more cumbersome than necessary, post your complaint and then wait to be ignored. The camera is too expensive for blogging and it overheats and doesn't have a viewfinder, they should've focused on the videographers on a budget. These Japanese giants, sony, roland, casio etc. have their heads stuck in the 20th century where large corporations dictate to the customer because they know best and are always right.

Small vlogging camera that has everything
What you get in the box ..... It comes as the camera body with cap, the lens (FE 4-5.6/28-60)with cap, A microphone wind-baffle and 1 NPFZ-100 battery. There is a Sony shoulder strap included. Charging The charge indicator is right beside the input on the camera and shows red/orange until full when it shows green. It took about 4 hours initially to charge with a usb c cable (not included) and I dont know how full it was already Sockets The microphone is built in and the baffle slides into the hot shoe slot in the top of the camera to sit over the microphone's grid . There is a Micro HDMI slot to allow streaming video, an external microphone slot, earphone socket and the USBC charge socket. App You access the App via a QR code or go to your App store (IOS or Android), searching 'creators App' or ' Sony' should do it. You can use this to adjust various things on the camera and access cloud options. You can update the firmware using it and I did this quite easily. There is 5GB cloud storage for free or 25GB free if you register your device to it. and other paid options are available. I like the way you can flip out the screen to see it when you are pointing the lens at yourself , it tilts too to allow viewing at an angle and it can flap flat to act in conventional forward shooting mode. Everything is set out on the screen edges with touch screen adjustments as well as the control buttons . The touch screen is excellent and allows scrolling through menus and chooing where the focus should be There is a cinematic mode that adds cinema like bars top and bottom of your recorded videos, you get some choices of colour balnce with this mode to add a bit of extra atmosphere. The bars are permanently on the recording though so you cant remove them later on in your captures and saved files. The buttons on the camera are. Zoom ,right at the front top where you hold the grip ,which is really easy to access without having to search for it. Behind that is the on off and the shutter button in the middle. Recording is a seperate button ringed red and afr enough from the shutter to not mistake it. Theres a recording indicator light when you record so you wont waste a load of time talking to the lens only to find you didnt press to capture it all. You can Choose the modes using the control slide switch. The options menu on the device is vast and differs depending which mode you are in. You can access the camera Raw files on the still image mode which is excellent if you do any kind of image adjustment work (stills upto 12MP) The quality of the videos is crisp and clean, Audio is picked up cleanly and that directional thing really works so you dont really have to have an external mic. There is a guide to the mobile app on the Sony site SD Card types (You dont get one so its a good idea to research your card needs so you can order the one that fits your requirements) which you can do if you go to the sony website and search for the ZV-E1 'online help guide' which outlines all the various shooting modes and what the card requirments are. You can only use one card at a time. The clever bits in my opinion are It has dynamic stabilization which works by keeping the main focus central , it crops part of the view by upto 30% to achieve this but is amazingly good Directional inbuilt mic(forward or backwards , all around or auto) which helps cutting out background noises and worked quite well with recording people in front of the camera while children were chattering like budgies in the background. It compensates for low light extremely well The Auto recognition focus which you can choose the subject type (human, animal, bird, plane, insect) makes filming the local birdlife feel very much easier AI based Auto track/framing , pick your subject in the viewer, it follows them in focus and feels rather like you have your own camera man this crops a bit off to keep the subject followed but looks very impressive and is perfect for demonstrations where you move about in front while the camera sits on the tripod. You can defocus the background with a button on the camera (C1) Image zoom is really clean , no pixelling as you get closer It Weighs only 661 grammes with the kit lens installed, battery and strap so its not a heavy camera at all. The size in my hand is really nice, I have smallish hands and find the grip is very comfortable Conclusion This is a perfect Vlogging camera It is light and compact and it has some excellent features
