Big Berkey 2.25 Gal Gravity Water Filter System with BB9-2 Filters

This Big Berkey water filter works well. I used AI to find the best water filters and this product was recommended as number one. Doing the math, I realized that this product is overall cheaper than bottled gallons of water from the store, and much easier on the back too. I've had no leakage whatsoever so far, and I've used for nearly three months now. The steel construction is very durable and looks nice on the counter. The water filtration is great -I taste only water now. Beautifully clear, and no chemical taste whatsoever. I would purchase again. I bought this for a grid down backup, as it is rated to filter surface water not only tap water. It took about one hour to assemble the unit and prime the filters. My tap has a spray nozzle, which means I had to use the alternate primer fitting, but the red dye test came out clean on the first attempt, so the filters were fully primed. I used 1-3/4 gallons of water to fill the tank, leaving a little air space above the filters. It took 2-1/4 hours to filter the entire tank. There was one quart remaining in the upper tank when it finished. The water tastes great and I'm quite happy with the unit.

I love my birthday water filter. Use all of my pets water out of this. I have to refill it every few days. Filters last forever. I would totally purchase one of these again. I highly recommend. I've had it for about a year and a half and have never had any type of leaking issues and it still has the plastic water dispenser spout.

Fantastic water system. Best tasting water ever. Easy to assemble. Need to put in some effort to prime black elements. Also bought arsenic/fluoride reduction filters. Worth it.

Love my Berkey water filter system. It gives me peace of mind knowing my water is filtered pure and taste great. I use it every day filtering my tap water. Love the 2.25 gal size and the design is beautiful on my counter.

My husband and I decided to purchase a water filter after the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment. We didn't want to go with the typical, mainstream brita water filter or the one that connects to a faucet. We have had those before and the filter has to be changed frequently. We liked that the Berkey filters out forever chemicals, specifically the chemicals spilled during the derailment. It also filters out over 200 contaminants, chemicals and bacteria. Setup was fairly easy, however priming the elements was challenging due to the adapter that fit onto our faucet which was a struggle. The life span of the filters is amazing, as they only need to be changed every 11,000 gallons. Although the filters are pricey, around $170ish for 2, they are worth it in the long run. Using the filter is easy. Once set up, just pour water in the top, put the lid back on and you're good to go. Quality of the materials is unmatched. We purchased a stand off Amazon that elevates the element, which you definitely need. Hoping to get the stainless steel spigot soon to replace the plastic one that came with the product. Lastly, I have to say the water tastes AMAZING. Like water should taste. It rivals the taste of Fiji, our preferred bottled water. Our family initially made fun of us for spending so much money on a water filter, but once they tasted it they plan on purchasing one. I was never a big water drinker before, but now I find myself drinking lots of it. We fill up multiple containers of it whenever we leave the house. Great product, give it a try!

I ordered a Big Berkey through Amazon in September 2017. The description said "Sold by: Amazon.com Services, Inc $208.11 Condition: Used - Very Good - Item has no cosmetic scratches or blemishes. Item has no cracks or dents. Item will come repackaged." The Berkey arrived with a small dent in the body, which I decided I could live with. Then when I put it together, I discovered that the black plastic wingnuts were both stripped. Buying new ones online was pretty expensive ($30 for a replacement parts kit), and I read a link that said you could secure the wingnuts with plumber's tape. So I did that, and it seemed to work. In retrospect, I should have AT LEAST complained to Amazon when I discovered the dent and the stripped wingnuts... but I thought they'd make me send the whole thing back, which would be difficult as I don't have a car. The other thing I should ABSOLUTELY have done, which I didn't, was the red food color test. The Berkey black filters are able to filter out red dye 40 and 3 (but not other colors, and not natural dyes); when a unit is assembled and red food color is added to the top chamber water, it's a way of telling whether the system is filtering properly. I didn't have enough red food color available (at that time, it said it needed a tablespoon/gallon!), so I just sort of assumed (again, stupidly) that it was working, and went ahead and used it. It seemed to work. How was I to know? Then this past week, I finally got around to doing the red food coloring test, following a cleaning and repriming. .. and BOTH filters failed. The water came through red, even after I got new wing nuts, and had my husband tighten them (they're supposed to be finger-tight, not pliers-tight, which is probably how the ones that came with it got stripped, by whoever had it before me). I also noticed that both filters had some scratches and minor chipping at the top, which was certainly nothing I'd done. Lesson: IF you are so foolish as to buy a used Berkey from Amazon.com Services, inc (or anybody else, for that matter), make sure to run the red food color test RIGHT AWAY, and hope they will honor your 30-day warranty. I now have no recourse but to go to Berkey and buy new filters for $120, and hope they work. At least if I buy them from Berkey, they come with a warranty! But I"m just sick to think that for the past year and a half, I've been carefully NOT filtering our tap water... and running it past plumber's tape, as well! :(

Bought Feb 22, 2025: still leaks from the spicket. So it has to stay on my little sink area. That’s really not good since the area is so small and I bought it to go else where. It’s very good besides that. Easy to clean and pour and it makes getting water easily accessible for my child. The stainless steel means it’s long lasting. Love the look. The filter is lasting a long time and I leave by the ocean. So cleaning the filers hasn’t need to be done since I bought it. It’s September now. The package came with a blue facet piece to clean the filters and it’s better than the brown rings before. No other complaints other than the spiked leaking. Strange cause I bought a new one after moving and the first one doesn’t leak at all

Easy to assemble, little bit of work required on the filters before you can use them, but knew this before I bought this unit. Instructions are OK, but followed other users advice and YouTubed away. I have pretty good water in my area, but the Berkey makes it taste much better.

Très satisfait de ce système de filtration par gravité acheté depuis un mois. J'ai ajouté un robinet inox et un support pour surélever l'ensemble sur ma table. Pour fonctionner les cartouches filtrantes doivent être remplies d'eau du robinet à l'aide d'un petit adaptateur que l'on pose entre le robinet et la cartouche que l,'on maintient à la main. Ça gicle un peu. Ensuite c'est très facile on remplit le bac du haut avec de l'eau max 8 l pour ce modèle et la filtration se fait assez rapidement en moins d'une heure. L'eau purifiée est très agréable à boire sans aucun goût en carafe ou au verre, pour préparer des boissons chaudes et froides. Plus besoin d'acheter des packs de bouteilles en plastique. Entretien une fois par mois en lavant les cuves et en réarmant les cartouches qui sont faciles à démonter/remonter. Les cartouches peuvent filtrer entre 22 000 et 23000 l avant d'être remplacées donc tranquille pour des années suivant la consommation quotidienne. Seuls bémols: notice en anglais mais vous trouverez des vidéos en français sur berkey water france et l'absence de jauge qu'il faut acheter en supplément. Sans elle il faut soulever le bac du haut pour vérifier le niveau d'eau restant dans le réservoir du bas . Ce modèle convient très bien pour une famille de 2 à 4 personnes et se remplit rapidement si vous êtes plus nombreux et que votre consommation augmente temporairement. Pour conclure j'ai vu ce système fonctionner sans problème depuis 2 ans chez ma fille ce qui m'a convaincu de m'équiper.

It's pricey to buy but a worthwhile investment in health. The whole house is super happy with it. If you are going to invest in your health in something that is used daily for years, I think quality and efficiency are definitely the two most important factors
