Yep; it's a case...
Having acquired a Vixen Polarie mount several years ago, the cardboard box it came in had served its purpose and the mount needed a new home. Having looked at several option on Amazon, I chose this one as it was smaller than the full-sized flight cases that were otherwise available (and a large case would have been overkill for my needs). The case arrived within the stated time scales and was in excellent shape on arrival. It was packed in a layer of bubble-wrap and was tightly fitted in its cardboard container. Luckily it appeared to have been treated well by the delivery service as the tight nature of the packing and the single layer of bubble wouldn't have put up much resistance to falls and rough handling. The item was as described: a flight case which was aluminium in colour. I've no doubt that the edging and corners are metal (it certainly feels cold to the touch), but the panels of the case don't have the same feel which makes me think they are silvered plastic, probably over a composite board of some description. Don't get me wrong: the effect is very nice, but I would think the protection to the interior offered by this would be less than that provided by an entirely aluminium shell. It's described as 'Heavy Duty', although I've no idea just how heavy duty that is, nor Oypla's definition of heavy duty. Having said that, I don't plan to transport the contents in anything other than my car, so for my purposes the protection offered was fine. The edge of the case has a tongue and grove profile, but I don't know how waterproof this is. There are locks on the two latches: this is also a nice touch, but in reality anyone wanting to get to the contents would probably make off with the entire case instead. The handle is plastic; a little rough, but certainly functional. There are no loops to install a shoulder strap. The hinges are serviceable, but I can't comment on their long-term durability. However, they do come with stop-brackets to prevent the lid from falling back 180degrees when opened. The interior is lined with a dark fabric, with an egg-box profile to the foam sponge glued into the lid space, and with the main body of the case occupied with a thick removable layer of foam sponge that comes up the the edge of the case (about 10cm depth). This is cut into approx 1cm squares and is easy to cut (fun tip: use a small curved-blade nail scissors; much easier than a straight bladed one). It was possible to pull out the foam sponge layer which made cutting the required shapes easier, and the layer slotted back into the case afterwards: friction between the foam sponge layer and the fabric liner is what keeps it in place. As you can see from the picture, the Polarie mount, together with two ball-and-socket mounts used with it and a few other necessary items are all kept nicely together (this amounts to about 1.25kg weight in total). At some point I may add a power bank into the kit to run the mount for longer than the standard AA batteries can do, and there looks like there's plenty of space left to fit one in.So, in conclusion, was it worth it? Like most things it depends what you're looking for. If you want a case that will protect your equipment as you hike through the Bolivian jungle/go on a 18-30 holiday, then this is probably not for you. If you want simple storage that will allow transportation of equipment under typical domestic situations, then this may well be it: and this is certainly OK for me (boring, eh!). But do remember to size up correctly as this is a smaller than 'normal' flight case.

Not as big as you might think
It is not as big as advertised external dimensions The external dimensions of the case (including the handle when it is sitting flat) are 39.6x12.5x22.8, not 41.4x 14.5 x 27 as advertised. If you hold the handle straight up, this brings the height of the case and handle up to 27 cm, but the internal height of the case is only 18.6 cm. This is just 6mm more than 1/3 of the advertised height.
