Perfect solution to no cell service!
PERFECT! This solved all of our problems and added NO financial stress! We recently moved into our first home and quickly realized we have NO cell phone service. We can send texts if we sit by the window, but have a 0% chance to make a successful phone call. Exploring all of our options, all were SO expensive but this. We looked into a network extender, but at $250+, it just wasn't feasible. I stumbled on this when exploring our landline options and went for it, and am SO glad we did. It is so easy to set up, you just plug it into the router, plug it into your landline phone and bam! You have a dial tone! Whether you buy it through BasicTalk's website or Amazon, you get the same deal. If you buy it from the website, you get the little box free, but pay for the first month. If you buy it on Amazon, you pay for the box, but get your first month free, so it all works out to be the same! I went with Amazon for the 2 day shipping. We get great clear connection on ALL phone calls, and haven't had any complaints or problems what so ever!! It's atleast worth a shot, at around $11-12 a month with taxes, you don't have much to lose!

chatting it up with friends or loved ones (I've always been a phone junkie lol even ...
This product may not be for everyone but for someone who enjoys most nights at home, chatting it up with friends or loved ones (I've always been a phone junkie lol even as a teenager I had my own "teenage hotline" with my own number because just like Kimmy Gibbler, I was soooo cool...Thank you Mom and Dad by-the-way.) I still find value in writing long letters and sending them by mail, I have a cell phone for emergencies only and have never been part of facebook or other social media, but perhaps writing my first review counts as "social media interaction?" All I know is that I have a antique phone plugged into this box and I can chat it up all night long if I want, and have never experienced a problem. People can leave me voice mails while I'm at work and I can return them. I have NO life and I LOVE IT. Thank you Basic Talk for giving me something so affordable and reliable and .....everyone gets the damn point lol Turn off you cell phones, turn off your TV, connect with people, real people. Oh and listen to you local public radio station, just sayin lol .... bye

Cheap entry price, good quality calls, won't work with most traditional home alarm systems
My mother in law has been using this for over a year. Going from a $40ish Verizon bill to a $13ish BasicTalk bill. I like that the box is so cheap. For $5 you can get it with the first month included and see how it works (although they will bill you for taxes). After that it is only 9.99 per month plus taxes so around $13ish in my area.Recently I have been looking to do the same but, since I had an alarm system I was concerned. I had heard mixed reviews on whether people could get their alarms to work with this. I could not. My GE Concord alarm system didn't like this guy no matter what I tried (CID transmit format). There really isn't a lot of things you can do to tweak this guy, it either works or it doesn't for you. After searching around I saw a lot of discussion forums of people getting their alarm's to work with Ooma (by using Ooma's "Alarm Mode" in the control panel) so I decided to give Ooma a shot. My GE Concord system works fine with Ooma's "Alarm Mode" turned on but doesn't work at all with it turned off. It all seems to have to do with the way alarm systems use DTMF codes to send info to the central station and how different VOIP providers reproduce DTMF codes on the other end. So, in short, I think I'll be happy with Ooma. Time will tell. FYI, turning on "Alarm Mode" on Ooma disables call waiting (didn't want it anyway) but it also disables the ability to check your voicemails from the phone itself. You have to use the Ooma base station, web site, or iPhone app. This kind of stinks but I think I can live with it.So, if you have an alarm system (that uses a phone line), BasicTalk probably isn't right for you. However, if you don't need this feature it will probably work fine for you. We've seen no issues with my mother in law using it for over a year. One nice feature on BasicTalk is you can port your number for free, it's a $40 expense on Ooma.FYI, when I called in to cancel BasicTalk (they have a phone number dedicated only to canceling!) they gave me a hard time about cancelling but I persisted and they wen't ahead. Hopefully I don't have any issues with weird BasicTalk charges showing up.
