The Very Best Of Sutherland Brothers & Quiver

Great Music Not To Listen To
If you are thinking of buying this CD on the strength of Arms Of Mary, then forget it, for that song is totally atypical of the Sutherland Brothers And Quiver and as such joins a long list of singles which bear no relation to the rest of their band's music - think If You Leave Me Now and Chicago and A Whiter Shade Of Pale and Procol Harum, for example - it really is a case of 'Where did that come from?' Nor be beguiled by the soft rock label this group wears, not if you were expecting anything of the quality of soft rock masters, the Eagles. There are some fairly good songs on here - I counted eight - but the rest used vocal and musical phrasings repeated ad nauseum within a song, which, apart from being very irritating, points to a lack of creativity. And they even manage to hand Rod Stewart millions by ruining their own Sailing by having a synthesizer providing what sounds like electrical feedback throughout the song. So listening to this CD is a very mixed and limited pleasure, but I have discovered that it is great as background music when you're doing something else, like cooking or the housework, and are not actually listening to it - placing it in what I feel must be an undiscovered genre: Great Music Not To Listen To.

Enjoyable selection.
Enjoyable trip down memory lane. I saw them at West Runton Pavillion back in 1977, was an enjoyable gig, good group of musicians and they played a lot of songs from their back catalogue. A lot of the songs are on this compilation.

The album and sound will grow on you
Remember Sailing and arms of Mary, but never heard an album of theirs until this. Yes I was impressed. Will need a few plays to really get into but I'm confident I will! - good songs, good vocals and good sound

This CD brings back the memories of my youth. As time passes, you tend to forget a lot of the music you enjoyed. This CD rectifies some of those issues!

Underrated band at their finest
A vey underrated band at their finest. As well as the inevitable Sailing there are many fine tracks here - Dream kid,Beat of the street,Arms of Mary, Champion the underdog and When the train comes are sublime pop songs.

An excellent collection of tracks by both the Southerland Brothers and with another band Quiver. There are a few better known songs such as the single Arms of Mary and also their original version of Sailing made into a huge hit by Rod Stewart. For anyone looking for the best of both these groups then this is the perfect place to start.
