Compact and multi purpose.
I love this for how compact and light weight it is. It takes about the same amount of space and weight as any other avg keychain. It's not going to rebuild a car or anything, but it can definitely get you out out of a quick jam, and unlock a bathroom stall in a second

You must have it.
I love tools. That is the reality of it. I cannot write this review without telling a story first. Ever since a child, when I was faced with the need to open a videogame console (a version of the Pong game with 10 variations), in which the start/reset button would not work. I wanted to open it to diagnose, perhaps attempt to fix somehow. The case was secured with two hex head screws, and I did not have a proper hex driver to remove the screws. I had no tools, but a few screwdrivers and one pliers, and at that age I have never seen a hex head screw. I unsuccessfully attempted to remove the hex screws with the pliers to no avail, but scratching the case. I finally and reluctantly took the game to a service shop, wherein a technician easily removed the screws with the proper tool, and showed me how to remove oxidation that had formed between the start button and the metal contact, a 5-minute fix. I was so frustrated that I could not do the job because I did not have the proper tool that, at that single moment, I promised myself that I would work to provide myself with every possible, imaginable tool that was: the proper tool makes the job easier. Many years later I became an engineer, and even though I do not have every possible tool that is, I do have a good bunch of them. :) For a tool lover, the Gerber Shard is a must have. It certainly does not have the usefulness and flexibility of a swiss army knife (the Cybertool M is my everyday companion, I have some other 30 swiss army knives in my collection), but it is compact, light, and comes in handy when the army knive is perhaps far away. It is permanently attached to my keychain. I will not say what are the uses for this Shard tool, since that would be an insult to a tool fan. Each of us finds our own uses when necessity arises. I previously had the black color version of this tool, which I believed I had lost by accident in a parking lot. I quickly purchased this silver version, which looks even better. One day after I received the silver version, I found my black one: it had fallen into a bag, not on the ground in the parking lot. I am now a happy owner of two Shards.

Saves You From Finding Dedicated Tools When the Job is Small
I had been eying this for a while, and last month I pulled the trigger. I was wary, though; would it cut through my pockets? Would it be too bulky even fit into my pocket? I've tested this sucker out for a few weeks, and the results are in: it does the job. It does fit in my pocket, and it's about the same size as my key fob; no worries there. Also, it's not sharp enough to cut through my pockets. I've carried it in dress pants, jeans, and even athletic shorts. Only the last one gave me pause about long-term use. Then again, if you're wearing shorts designed to be light and breathable, maybe you don't carry around multitools or even a lot of keys? Still, no damage. I've tested the bottle opener, and it works fine. Sometimes it's been hard getting a grip, but it beats having to dig through the drawer to find a bottle opener. I've also used it to open packages when I was too lazy to go find my pocketknife. The lanyard hole works well for threading a key ring through. I haven't had the opportunity to try any of the drivers or the wire strippers, though I can see all of these being useful. The real benefit of this tool is saving you from having to get a dedicated tool when the job is small. If you're going to open a ton of boxes, or put together a new PC, then it's time to get the real goods. Lastly, it's spiky enough that I imagine you could do some damage if it came to close-quarters combat. Other bits: it looks attractive in a gun-metal grey color; it doesn't get lost easily; it doesn't flake or discolor. It does the job and I'm keeping it, but I wish the bottle opener was a little bit wider. 4-ish stars.

Just enough to get you by, when naked
This little thingy is when you don’t have a knife or multitool but need something that can get you by, enter the Shard. Never used to buy the glass bottle soda while I was out because I couldn’t open it, not anymore ! Used it to pry apart a small battery sensor thing at work, no problem. Wife ask me to cut some boxes open at store so she can fiddle with the thing before buying, right away Ma’am. It’s just enough to get by, because it’s a kinda sharp bent piece of metal that fits on your keychain. Also had to be tacti-cool and braid on the parachord so I can be extra tactical.

Very sturdy key chain tool
Last weekend I dropped the transmission out of my F-150, rebuilt it and re-installed using ONLY the Gerber Shard and some red Loctite. Truth? You be the judge. One thing that is not in question is the coolness of this little tool. Any key chain will be honored to hold this multi-faceted, multi-specialty, multi-purpose tool. I wrapped it with paracord to give a little extra purchase when cranking down on that pesky Phillips head screw. You can find numerous videos on how to do that or just man up and try it yourself. I have used it mostly for opening Amazon boxes containing other cool EDC stuff. All joking aside, it is very well built and has a little “heft” but not heavy. I chose the silver Titanium Nitride Coating version (vs. black) because how often do you get to say “Titanium Nitride”? Full disclosure, I think both of them are Titanium Nitride, so maybe I just thought the silver would hold up better in my pocket. I did drive a nail in a board just to see if I could pry it out. It did! Other features are Small and Medium Flat Driver, Philips Head Driver, Wire Stripper (untested), Bottle Opener (heavily tested) I have the Nite Ize G-biner #2 and the Shard mates nicely with it. If you have smaller ring, you might add a small section of paracord to the Shard to hang from. Lord knows the hole is big enough (sorry, not sorry). They claim it is TSA approved and airline safe. I cannot attest to that because, frankly if TSA approves it, it kind of diminishes the coolness. Cons? Maybe the lanyard hole could be smaller. But hey, Maybe I could be taller but I’m not. For comparison, I also have the Nite Ize DoohicKey and I like the Gerber better just for the heftiness. You will lose this tool before you bend or break it. 5 stars

Awesome daily carry withOUT a knife
This is a great little tool and I've bought it for my father and brother. You can always use a screwdriver but the angled 'pry bar' is the genius. I use it to open packages constantly and its crotch edge is sharp and can cut small threads and tags. Perfect for a keychain. Won't put a hole in your pants. No knife to get you in trouble at the airport.

Teilweise brauchbar
Als Flaschenöffner oder Mini-Stemmeisen. Als Schraubenzieher (Schlitz oder Kreuzschlitz) leider ziemlich ungeeignet, da zu dick. Sieht aber nett aus (wie der Geist eines Vogels).
