PowertravellerPowermonkey Discovery 5V Portable Charger

i just took this on holiday with us and had to use it a couple of times. it was just the ticket - and is light and compact too. Looks really cool, and absolutely does the job. It would only be improved by a proper, cool case for putting all the attachments and leads that you need if you have several devices that may need charging. come on - i'm sure you can stretch to designing a really good one of those too!

Anybody with a smart phone knows only too well that the battery will not last all day. I have been looking for a backup battery for a while now. I chose the Powertraveller Powermonkey Discovery Portable Charger, because it has a metal casing and looks robust. This backup battery will charge your iPhone twice and which is more than enough for a days use outside the home or office. It comes very handy when you're only holiday. Sure the larger solar powered models may have more capacity, but there isn't really that much sun in the UK and it would mean carrying a large unit and would need to be charged via the mains anyway. The size of this backup battery is no bigger than your 90's candy bar phone and great if you're a believer in travelling light. It will charge up your phone at the same speed as the mains, but you would need to use the charging/USB cable that comes with your phone.What I don't like about it is that it is a nuisance to get charging. It doesn't always work the first time. It seems to work fine in the UK, but when you're abroad and you're fiddling with it for some time, it is a bit annoying. Also, a full charge takes several hours, so you plug it in before you go to sleep and it will be ready by the time you have breakfast. I would take a spare travel adaptor with you as you're probably going to need to charger up other devices or your camera batteries. Another thing I don't like about it is the lack of a lead for iPhones. You get a whole host of adaptors, which look a bit flimsy, but nothing for iPhones or iPods etc.

Warning - contrary to the description this does NOT charge an iPhone (at least not my iPhone 5S). A different cable is required to fit the Apple micro USB, which appears to cost c. £20 and is currently not even available. I have now spent £30 on a product I cannot use.

I was first aware of this product at the N.E.C. show in Birmingham.I was so impressed with The Power Monkey I have bought another one as a gift for a friend,...It is amazing that it can hold it's charge for well over two months and it performs perfectly.

it's not charging all devices and not bad device and the product is not good value for money.

Good product, works well and charges quickly. Would be handy if it came with a mains power recharger, but no major hassle. Small enough to keep in your pocket if need be.

I used the product with my Iphone 5, it gave enough back up power to fully charge my phone whilst watching Sky go for 90 minutes with power to spare. The powermonkey is light and compact making it easy to carry in a pocket or handbag. Frustration when your phone is dead.....then this gadget is for you.

Brilliant, a most have if you use a smart phone. Very lightweight, fast charging I would highly recommend this powermonkey portable charger.
