Kath & Kim: Season 1 [DVD]

A Greatly Appreciated DVD Release For An Unappreciated Show!
SNL's ย Molly Shannon andย Hellboy's ย Selma Blair are the sassy fashionistas Kath & Kim. John Michael Higgins and Mikey Day are Phil and Craig, the men who worship them. And this 2-DVD set is Kath & Kim - Season 1 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.Based on the Australian series of the same name, NBC's Kath & Kim (likeย The Office ) was met with criticism from fans and critics of the original series who failed to appreciate what the cast & crew of the brilliantly funny NBC version had to offer. Too bad, because this show had the potential to run as long as the shows of Molly Shannon's fellow former SNLers Julia Louis-Dreyfus ( The New Adventures of Old Christine ), Tina Fey ( 30 Rock ), and Amy Poehler ( Parks & Recreation ). It was unfortunate that NBC didn't give Kath & Kim the chance to grow with viewers as the network did with The Office. Had fans and critics spent less time condemning the creative differences between the two versions rather than accepting them on their merits, who knows? Fortunately for devoted fans of NBC's Kath & Kim who actually get the show, Universal has neatly preserved the series in a quality DVD set with great extras. The episodes look and sound great. The commentaries are fun and highly informative. Overall, a great set. Well done, Universal.Guest stars include: Ellia English ("The Jamie Foxx Show"), Stephanie Courtney (a pre-Flo the Progressive Insurance girl), Catherine Reitman (daughter of director Ivan Reitman), Maya Rudolph ("Saturday Night Live"), singer Wynonna Judd, Jennifer Coolidge ("Joey", "American Pie"), comedian Ron "Tater Salad" White, Yvette Nicole Brown ("Community"), April Bowlby ("Two And A Half Men"), Michael McDonald ("Mad TV"). Look for a cameo appearance from series Co-executive Producer Will Calhoun as the fireman in the season finale "Home".Kath & Kim is a 2-disc (single-sided) set featuring all 17 episodes from the season in Anamorphic Widescreen (1.78:1) video; English Dolby Digital 5.1 audio; English subtitles for the deaf & hearing-impaired; plus the following Special Features: Deleted Scenes, Gag Reel, and Audio Commentaries with stars Molly Shannon, Selma Blair, Mikey Day, and John Michael Higgins; Executive Producer Michelle Nader; and Co-Writers Adam Barr, Jim Dubensky, and Steve Gabriel. The discs (which feature a "cutout" of the show's logo on a pink background) are housed in a 2-disc amaray case. Here are the episodes, and how the discs will be configured:Disc 1:1. Pilot2. GREAT SHOW! GUARANTEED to put a Smile on your face!!
While I realize this show has been gone for years...I just HAD to say that the US version was HILARIOUS!! I thought Molly Shannon and Selma Blair were incredibly FUNNY!! If I was a millionaire..I would pay EVERYONE on the original show to start back up again!! I LOVE it SO MUCH...that I not only purchased the DVD of Season 1...but Also ordered it via Amazon video. That way I can watch it in any form...AT ANY TIME!! I actually watch ALL of S1 at Least 1-2 X per month...and it ALWAYS brings a smile to my face! My fave episodes are all from Season 1..cause..thats the ONLY season that the US version produced. Favorites are: E1 - Pilot, Ep7 - Gay, E9 - Friends, E12 - Idols, E14 - Competition, and E15 - Desire, AND E17 - Home.So..try watching ALL off Season 1, of the US Version...and I'm SURE you'll agree!!I LOVE THIS SHOW...and am a HUGE FAN of Shannon, Blair, Day, ..and ESPECIALLY Higgins!!

BRILLIANT, UNDERRATED SHOW
They really should have named this show something else so people would not compare it to the AU version. The show should be judged for what it is (or was) and not compared to the other one. Having said that... This show is freakin' hilarious and full of sharp wit. I have to rewind parts sometimes to catch certain things. The show constantly makes fun of itself and is unashamedly campy. Molly Shannon and Selma Blair have great chemistry, and John Michael Higgins as Phil has some of the best lines EVER. Anyway, this show is extremely under-rated and under-appreciated. I guess if you don't "get it" you just don't get it. Too bad.By the way, I have never seen the Aussie version but really want to.

Eh-- disappointed.
I remember seeing the previews for 'Kath and Kim' a few years ago and thinking I would absolutely love it. That excitement happens next to never. Like with all TV shows these days, though, I get around to watching them way after the fact by buying the DVDs. I probably should have researched this one before buying..I've gotten (suffered?) through about half of the episodes from this one and only season, and while there is an occasional laugh here and there, I think the show suffers from tremendous amounts of over-acting and boring story lines.Molly Shannon will always be funny as long as she's your cup of tea, but my biggest issue from the start was Selma Blair's personality in title character Kim. By the time the Pilot episode was over, I was already bothered by the non-stop eye-rolling and dramatics. Seriously, it's comparable to the amount of times that Jim Halpert on 'The Office' looks at the camera and gives that baffled shrug-- even this managed to be far more annoying. She also has this Adrianne Curry (the first America's Next Top Model) slow, whiny tone of voice going on... just not a good combination at all.Like I said, there are some funny moments (and subtle humor, ie. Kath saying she can't elope while holding a cantaloupe), but the show was a huge disappointment for me. I see that some third-party vendors are now down to two dollars for a brand new copy. I'm not surprised.I am, however, still crossing my fingers to see Molly Shannon in a successful comedy..

Hilarious! Too bad the series was canceled.
Kath & Kim was one of the best comedies on television in 2009. John Michael Higgins' and Selma Blair's characters are an absolute riot. Unfortunately, the show didn't get picked up for renewal in 2010 and NBC has since removed the old episodes from Hulu.com and the NBC.com website so the only way to watch the old episodes is by getting the DVD. The Season 1 DVD compilation is great, too. There are a handful of extra features that are worth watching as well. Definitely recommend this DVD to all the Kath & Kim fans out there.

As funny as they come!
Kath and Kim is just another in a long line of great TV shows that had the plug pulled way too prematurely.I was never a Molly Shannon fan until this came along. She played Selma Blair's mom and the two of them lived together. The show was refreshing in that they actually got along and enjoyed each other. The supporting cast was stellar,it was well written and very, very funny. It's just a shame that it was never given the chance to develop a good following, but now that it's on DVD I can see it all over again.I would recommend this show to people who like clever, witty fluff when you just want to turn off your brain and have a good laugh.Enjoy!

it's alright
RATING IS FOR THE QUALITY OF THE DVD + SPEED OF SHIPPING ONLY, the show itself isn't that great. Australian original is much better. i feel like this one tries too hard to be like the original.
