Monster Hunter meets Soul Sacrifice
A monster hunter clone right down to a cute cuddly sidekick that brings you materials (Trenya anyone?) with elements of Soul Sacrifice to boot. It also brings it's own ideas to the party - weapons can by equiped with Matitama, the souls of previous demon slayers, which can add extra skills according to the particular Mitama. The Mitama can be freed from the Oni (the invading demons) during battle. Game play is typical MH, attack, evade, run like hell, evade, attack etc. with all the intensity you would expect, though I have to agree with the previous reviewer that the difficulty (so far) is a step down from it's illustrious predecessor though still challenging enough.Graphic quality is excellent; the locations are taken from Japanese history and are beautifully rendered - as you would expect from Tecmo Koei. AIl the usual Japanese AI characters are present and correct with typical Japanese voice acting - both wonderful and grating at the same time. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this game to frustrated MH players owning a Vita...

Monsters and a good universe.
A good game with an interesting universe and characters. The game-play is simplistic press button hit monster then keep pressing till monster is dead. On the face of it it's a simple game but there are fine details that give it a bit more depth. The one great thing about the game is it can be consumed in bite size chunks. What I mean by that is you don't have to start playing and then not be able to stop because there isn't a convenient place to pause and save. It consists of missions and they all have a timer usually about 60min but a mission should never really take that long to finish. On average you'll be spending about 10-20min on each except for the ones that have a 5min time limit. That makes this game a good pick up play for a quick couple of missions and then put down again short bursts fun fest. Now for the not so good things. The camera is a bit of an ass and there are times it will screw you over. Nothing is really explained in great detail so you will end up having to trial and error it. Monster verity is limited and you will be facing the same bosses over and over again. I know i haven't talked about the graphics or anything technical. Well if you want that stuff then read the other reviews, I'm just going to tell you what I think you need to know. All in all I would recommend it if you are comfortable with combat that consists of mashing the same button over and over and want a game you can dip into for a short burst and then put down again. There is enough here to keep you going for some time and the story and universe just help drive the whole thing along nicely.

Monster hunter + Japanese story/voice acting = gaming perfection!
Let me firstly qualify my review by saying i do love monster hunter - and this game is really quite the clone. Were taking monster hunter gameplay here, adding in some of soul sacrifice (the drop in/out mp and the absorbing soul bits, with the ability to view body parts that are weak etc) and the accessibility of dynasty warriors (omega force make those games) and coming out with a slightly lighter weight monster hunter. There is also some (weak) story elements here, which help attach you to the bps's (which can also join you on quests - so you're rarely alone) .The crafting isn't quite as addictive as MH, and the weapons and armour are not as intrinsically linked to each monster here, but overall the same addictive feeling of steady progression is there.I have played for 10 hours so far and have loved it. Its easier than MH but still challenging enough to make it feel satisfying.Give it a go as MH isn't coming to vita any time soon....

Good Hunting Game for the Vita
Brilliant hunting game for the vita and was just wanted I needed to fill the MH void. I looked at Soul Sacrifice (One I might still try one I've finished this) but I preferred Toukiden's approach to weapons and armour. Not the most challenging game to play and probably not as lengthy as the MH series of games, but I've put around 20 hours in so far and I'd say I'm about 40% through it.I know MHFU is available on the Vita, but this feels so much more fluid, with the Mitama adding a nice alternative to carrying items, as well as something to level up and change abilities depending on your play style.Only negative is the lack of online players so far!

Great alternative to Monster Hunter franchise
Great alternative to Monster Hunter franchise. Gameplay is faster than Monster Hunter and smooth. I initially purchased Toukiden after playing the demo from PS Store and thought this is a must buy for actionrpg gamers like myself. I still play from time to time to this day.

The only issue with it is it becomes pretty repetative to be honest
This game is okay, took me around 32 hours to complete. The only issue with it is it becomes pretty repetative to be honest, apart from that it's good fun.

toukiden
a great game, its very like monster hunter but with more of a japanese mythology taste. it also plays similar but with enough changes to make it a challenge.
