Freedom pull-minimizer harness, more accurately. Increased control with use of included leash.
The Freedom No Pull Harness is the best of the available harness devices for dogs. I bought one for my 14 year old Lab/pointer cross, when we discovered he has some small cervical compression fractures, and also strained his neck while rough-housing with the "Big Guy" (see below, 90 pound Lab.) This has been a dream come true for him in his old age, taking all of the strain and pull of a leash on his poor old neck, and placing it squarely on his chest and torso where he is clearly more comfortable with it. The vet recommended this, and it's worked like a charm for increased comfort. I bought a large for my new-to-me 90 pound adult chocolate Lab. It fit perfectly (pay attention to the sizing charts- they're very accurate,) and the difference was noticeable the first time out. I had increased control immediately. Being the dog that he is, however, he has "adjusted" to the harness, and now pulls as much as always. Clearly more training is needed, and this is on me. The biggest advantages to this particular harness are the increased control over the dog (when he starts to go insane, forgets I'm on the other end of the leash and could be harmed by his behavior/action, and attempts to lunge into traffic, or at any man on a bicycle, or the neighbor's Boxer dog.) I have a little bit of an edge with this harness. I recommend the training package, with the funny leash that hooks to the chest and the back- this seems to make a difference giving increased control when used as indicated in the picture. Also, I don't wince at the sound of him compressing his own trachea, or windpipe, when he is straining against the leash on a regular collar. I would comfort myself with the idea that it was a self limiting problem in that if he cut off his own air supply entirely he would at least stop pulling ;) But with the harness I also don't worry about him injuring his trachea or cervical soft tissue, and costing me yet more at the vet, and himself the misery of injury. The harness is a winner on this count- more comfortable for him, and anatomically appropriate and safe. The other big selling point was my Amazon purchase came with one free repair, for the cost of postage. This seemed like a red flag at first (why would I need repair service?) But now that we're on our THIRD of these harnesses, I understand- If I put this harness on my dog more than 15 in advance of our walk, and leave him unsupervised, he chews clean through it rendering it useless. When I bought these harnesses direct from the inventor's website, they charge for the repair warranty unless you buy a sort of "extended" warranty at the time of initial purchase. When I buy from Amazon (exact same product) the seller offers to repair once at no cost to me, save postage. This is a HUGE bonus, and I recommend buying from Amazon for this reason. I bought my original 2 harnesses direct from Freedomnopullharness.com, and threw the first one out after he chewed through it. I have the second one he chewed through, and will be asking about the cost to repair the severed piece. Basically, I found this the best of all harnesses (and I've bought a bunch of different kinds in my quest for the ideal,) and my last ditch effort before using the Gentle Leader head harness (Which I may still try...)

Actually works
I am transitioning from balanced training to positive reinforcement training for my recently rescued year and a half old 90lb German Shepard mix. I was previously using a slip lead because I cannot stand harnesses and didnโt feel I could wak him safely in one. I tried the Halti no pull harness and it sucked. It basically attaches to the dogs collar in the front and has no martingale loop in the back. I started working with a professional trainer who highly recommended the freedom harness and still had my doubts. I figured even with normal use my dog was too big for a plain nylon harness and it would wear out quickly. When I unboxed it, I could tell it was clearly high quality and well made. I didnโt have any inclination it might break on me. I put it on my dog and realized I should probably size up from a L to an XL. The L fit but was totally maxed out and he is still growing and filling out. The XL fits perfectly and had more room to adjust but not too much. The velvet is also a nice upgrade due to the fact that the stomach strap sits behind the elbows. We went on our first test outing with the double leash and it was great! My dog already has some leash training and doesnโt pull too bad unless he sees a trigger like another dog and gets too excited. He does get a little distracted and, unlike other harnesses, this leash/ harness combo allows me to direct him subtly, maintaining positive methods and not having to use corrections but also teaching him what leash pressure means and redirect him accordingly. He responded to the tightening of the martingale loop when he did start to pull and our previous training helped him redirect right back to me when that did happen. I really am a fan of the leash as much as I am of the harness. It is a simple idea really, that the handle is free floating and adjusts to the angle you are holding it at. This is a huge upgrade from the matching halti lead I was using with the halti harness. That one didnโt have a handle at all. You could probably get any double ended leash and attach a traffic handle but this one just moves so easily that it seems more efficient this way. It is just the right length for me and my tall dog. I prefer about a four foot length and I feel that when this is bucked to the front and back of the harness it comes out to about that. My dogs big head fits in between the two straps and I can easily switch sides without the leash becoming tangled. I am definitely now pro- harness and can easily manage my 90 lb reactive teenage dog as a 130 lb 5โ3 woman and still maintain the positive methods. I love that they have so many different colors because I am kindof a leash snob and love that the tan matches my dog. I kindof wish they made a leather or biothane version for added boujee- ness and use in wet environments. My dog is accustomed to being leashed and doesnโt attempt to chew. Although this set is sturdy I obviously would not say this is at all chew proof because it is just nylon so if you have a dog that chews you will want to use supervision.

Feel much better about this after several months of use.
Update: 1/25/15 Upgraded by one star. My dog has been wearing this on walks and potty outings since the day we received it back in November. My concern was that small 5/8" would not hold up to her 35 pound Cujo imitation (she can pull me off my feet--she's quite powerful for a fairly little thing); however, it has done wonderfully. As I said in the original review, it doesn't seem to work all that great for "no-pull" and when I hook her leash to the front ring, she constantly gets tangled in it. That's a moot point for me as I did not buy it for the no-pull component. I'm still not giving it a 5-star rating because the harness has a tendency to shift so that the center martingale hook is off-center. She walks on my left which means the clasp is hanging from her right side. This hasn't caused any major problems other than my concern that it might be rubbing her doggy armpits. If it's supposed to shift--then my bad. Anyhow, I really like the ease of putting the harness on her and its sturdiness. All good reasons to recommend it. ****Original Post (3-stars)**** Very torn on this product. In terms of a "no-pull" harness, I don't feel that works, but I didn't buy it for that reason. My rescue pooch is already getting better at loose-leash walking--until she sees a person or (horror) a dog. I don't like collars--too many injuries can occur--so I wanted a good, solid harness. Based on the sizing chart, I bought the medium 1" (initially). While the chart indicated that I could go with 5/8"(based on her weight and chest size), I preferred the strength and sturdiness of the 1". I love the design of the harness and it feels quite solid (at least the medium does). It slips over the dog's head and you just pull the side straps back between her front legs and snap it into place on the sides. Very easy. I was worried about getting it on her. That's the least of my worries with this harness. The medium, even tightened as much as possible, was simply too big. The strap that goes across the front of her chest drooped below her shoulders. The manufacturer, when I contacted them, said I should go with the small which only comes in 5/8". The sizing charts indicate that dogs with a 24" chest and weigh more than 25# should choose the medium; however, I went with what the manufacturer themselves told me and bought the small (my dog weighs 35#). Where I felt totally confident with the medium, I feel panicky with the small. It fits her beautifully and doesn't droop and hobble her movement; however, she's leash reactive and quite the lunging, barking doofus. I'm not at all confident this small 5/8" harness will hold. At least temporarily, I will be attaching the leash to both the harness AND her collar. I don't like to use collars for anything but holding tags and ID, but just in case this flimsy looking, small harness doesn't hold--I want back-up. The dog trainer recommended this brand, so I will trust in her and the manufacturer (and the back up connection to the collar) until I feel more comfortable that the clasps on this won't snap or the metal loop that the leash attaches to won't give way. A pity they don't offer the small in 1"; I'd feel much better about it. If I had a smaller dog, I'd feel better too. Update (same day): Let me clarify: the nylon itself doesn't concern me. It seems really well stitched and nylon is strong in general. It's the hardware that worries me on the small (where on the medium it felt hefty and strong, the small does not). The metal parts are skinny and light and don't seem like they'd hold back 3 pound Yorkie, and the plastic connectors feel like a 4-year-old could tug them open. Again, this is just me worried that my dog would snap it all and get loose and possibly bite someone--working on all of this, but it doesn't happen overnight. With the sturdiness of the medium, I didn't hesitate to take her outside and never once thought the hardware wouldn't hold up. Not so with the small. If my opinion of this changes for better or worse, I will be sure to update this. P.S. Sorry if this seems jumbled, but I guess that demonstrates my feelings for this product. *sigh*

Cuts pulling down greatly, allowing us to train more effectively.
Our girl is 1000% determined to pull my shoulder out of place. This harness cut it down to 100% pulling. I love the ease of getting it on her. It was easily adjusted and I am confident will fit her into adulthood (๐ค only another 10 pounds). The leash is great! I love that I can have a shorter leash without worrying about wrapping it around my hand/arm to shorten it. But if I want to give her a few more feet of freedom, I can easily use it as a regular leash. I did have to add a muzzle lead to cut the pulling down to 10% (which is still sometimes a lot with a stubborn 50 pound pittie puppy) but I think with more training and time this harness will be all we need. Instead of clipping to the front of the harness and the back, I clip to the muzzle lead and the back. Works miracles!! So far I've not seen her chew on any part. I doubt it would hold up to her teefs very long, but most things don't. I am very happy and will purchase again if needed, and recommend to friends/family/complete strangers.

Improved walks for strong dog
First walk was a notable improvement from the Kong harness. The harness I had would work great, but this 60 pound border collie/GSP/pit bull is STRONG. In this new no pull harness, she noticeably releases her pull almost immediately as she feels the feedback of the harness.

Great harness with some minor issues
Giving this a 3 star rating when it could easily be a 5 star. These harnesses are absolutely great for basset hounds. This particular order did not come with the leash portion. It's fine for me as I'm buying for a puppy and fully expect to purchase another larger one that should have a lead. I have a large blue one for my 60lbs basset and it fits very well. It makes it so much easier walking him when he tends to pull every time. He actually behaves very well on this harness. I had to order two because I got one that was assembled backwards, but this harness fits so well and gives so much control I accept that headache.

Thanks for making such a great product!
Very easy to adjust, and once adjusted, easy to put on and take off. Love that there are two rings for attaching a leash, makes it easier to control pulling. It seems to be well made (our other dog has one already, which is several years old and still going strong.) Thanks for making such a great product.
