Excellent diagnostic tool for every one
As a professional mechanic with several years of experience, I have used a wide range of automotive diagnostic tools, and I must say that the Xtool D7 has been a pleasant surprise. I have been using it in my workshop for the past six months, and so far, it has exceeded my expectations in terms of functionality and performance. The Xtool D7 is extremely versatile. It has allowed me to perform comprehensive diagnostics on a variety of vehicles, from small cars to commercial vans. I can scan all the vehicle's electronic modules and obtain detailed information on error codes, real-time data, and active tests. This has been crucial for identifying hard-to-detect issues and ensuring accurate repairs. The Xtool D7's user interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. The menus are clear and well-organized, making it quick to find the function I need without wasting time searching through complicated manuals. The high-resolution screen displays graphics and data clearly, making it easy to interpret information while working on the vehicle. One of the things I appreciate most is the Xtool D7's ability to perform special functions such as key programming and DPF regeneration. These functions have been helpful on numerous occasions and have allowed me to provide more comprehensive service to my clients. Additionally, software updates are frequent and easy to install, ensuring that the tool is always up-to-date with the latest automotive models and technologies. Investing in the Xtool D7 has been an excellent economic decision. not just is the best scan tool between 300-400 price but It has helped me improve the efficiency of my workshop by reducing diagnostic time and avoiding the need for expensive subcontracted services. Furthermore, Xtool's technical support has been excellent; they are always available to answer questions and provide assistance when needed. I would recommend the Xtool D7 to any automotive industry professional looking for a reliable and comprehensive diagnostic tool. Its combination of advanced functionality, ease of use, and continuous support makes it a valuable investment for any workshop or vehicle repair service.

Works good!
I’m not a mechanic, I just work on my own stuff. With that said though, I have used this quite a bit already and it has definitely been worth the money. The last few things I used it for that come to mine was I used it to program new key fobs on my Jeep and my son’s Honda car, and I used it to troubleshoot some emissions alerts that my daughter’s car was having and verify the repair when I was done. The live logging was really helpful for that. I could see that an oxygen sensor kept losing voltage while I was driving. It works really good and it seems like every time I turn it on there are new updates for the diagnostic software so it does seem like they are really keeping it updated well. I’m happy with it

Performance at a good price
Having owed and using Topdon, Ivonna, Xtool and an early bluetooth Android with dongle, I can say the D7s is a very capable scan tool for the price. I have used it on several GM, Ford, and an early model Chrysler, with no major problems. It's a quick scan tool with many features and capabilities depending on the vehicle manufacturer. I have found not one scanner will do everything, but so far the D7s has done everything that I have needed to do. On a couple older GM models I found that the D7s showed a couple more modules that my Topdon didn't. With free updates and no subscription fees this scan tool is budget friendly as well as good tech support and great customer service. (My personal experience). D7s is a good scan tool for small shop or a knowledgeable DIYer. Even without any trouble codes present you can check the overall health of your vehicle and correct or avoid future problems. If you just want to check codes and perform basic repairs I suggest looking at Xtool IP508 (about $150) or the AD20 pro (about $75) that you link to your Android or I phone. No I am not be paid or compensated for these suggestions. Overall I would purchase the D7s again and may purchase a D9 if my customer base grows larger. Launch, Autel, and Topdon make good scanners, but at my budget and needs I prefer my Xtool scan tool.

Great scan tool at a great price
Very happy with this scan tool. I first became aware of xtools due to a great review from YouTuber that I like. I’ve owned several scan tools over the years (former mechanic now wrenching part time) and this is the best I’ve used. This replaced my Autel mx 900. It’s an upgrade in every way. It’s super fast, the bidirectional features are fantastic. Excellent interface. I had a bit of trouble initially getting it to register and download updates but the customer service was great and got me set up in no time. I haven’t tried the ecu coding yet but very happy and the price is right. Even price independent I think it’s one of the best you can get, best I’ve used anyway.

Might be good for some, but a bit overhyped.
I spent a lot of time researching scan tools before settling on this one. So, I really wanted to like this, but I ended up returning it. Don't get me wrong...it's not a *bad* scan tool. In fact, it might even be great depending on which vehicle(s) you own. Hence the 3-star rating. I tried it on a 08 Dodge Avenger and a 14 Ford Focus and it didn't really offer anything beyond less expensive bi-directionial scan tools. I feel like the description and information on the Xtool website is pretty misleading. So, it's really hard to justify spending more for this scanner. I recommend taking the glowing youtube reviews with a grain of salt and be prepared to return it if necessary.

Was Sent a USED Unit & It's Not Performing as Expected
ADDITIONAL UPDATES! - - I'm again moving my review from an initial "Single Star" (then to "3 Stars") and now to 4 STARS! XTool has been EXTREMELY PROACTIVE in repeatedly reaching out to me and doing one follow up after another to assist me with the various issues I've been facing. So far, I'm EXTREMELY PLEASE with how they are doing everything in their power to resolves the frustrations and misgivings I was experiencing. "Caleigh" (w XTool) has reached out to me on numerous occasions, offering me REAL SOLUTIONS! - - I'm hoping to report again in the near future via another "Updated Review" and move this all the way up to a 5-Star Rating, but so far, XTool has exhibited OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE and follow up! "Thank You", XTool !!! UPDATE!! - - I'm REVISING my initial 1 Star Review, up to 3 Stars, and may raise it even higher!! XTool staff have been extremely proactive and professional in the way the have reached out to me in order to resolve the issues I brought up. I will continue to work with them, but so far I am VERY SATISFIED as to how they're trying to make things right. Time will tell, but for now I did want upgrade my review due to how they QUICKLY REACHED OUT TO ME, and expressed their desires to correct the issues I've outlined. KUDOS to XTool so far, and "THANK YOU!!" I just received this unit 2 weeks ago (April 12th, 2026), and was busy with other things and didn't get around to even opening up the box until several days later. It was then that I discovered I'd been sent a USED UNIT, as it already had a user name, and a user email (which I CAN'T ERASE and put in mine without knowing the password the original owner put in), AND the unit (and subsequently the Subscription) was activated on January 17th of this year!! Secondly, this unit (as others have noted) is CLUNKY and not real intuitive. (I have a $40 Ancel scanner that I purchase via Amazon many years ago, and while not bi-directional, is far easier to use, and I've NEVER gotten a "Failed to Communicate" message from it, which I've already received numerous times with the D7S unit.) Not only did this unit FAIL in its claimed capabilities (despite numerous attempts, I was unable to do a "Relearn" on a new Crankshaft Position Sensor for our 2005 Buick Century w/the 3.1 l engine), but I was PERPETUALLY getting messages of "Refer to Service Manual" I guess that means I paid $400 for it to tell me to go buy the dedicated Service Manual for whatever vehicle I was working on. I also was frustrated by the fact that the "Auto Scan" feature is far from one, (again, my $40 Ancel scanner has never failed me in this task), as in just attempting to "Auto Scan" post plugging into the OBD-II Port for our '12 Highlander (standard V6 engine) the D7S kept giving me a "Failed to Communicate" message. It was only after I FIRST inputted into the scanner that it was a Toyota I was working on, did it recognize the vehicle. I had also wanted to reprogram keys for my '03 BMW 530i, and the wife's '12 Highlander, but after reading the comments here from others that have tried and failed, I'm not even going to bother before returning this unit. MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED with the inability of this scanner to perform the functions it claimed its capable of, its perpetual "Refer to Service Manual" messages, and its inability to recognize the vehicle its been plugged in to! I'm also VERY UNHAPPY that I received a USED UNIT, with the subscription having been activated some 3 months ago by whoever the previous owner/user of this D7S was!! (Btw, one last note... though "tolerable" and not a "deal breaker" its obvious that whoever programmed this scanner, did not speak English as their native language, which one will note with the spelling errors for basic English words).

junk
Will not function without a Wifi connection. This is not listed anywhere on the product page. You also only get limited functionality and limited time uses (2) without a subscription. The product page implies the subscription is for updates only. This is a lie!
