Garmin Dash Cam™ Live, 24/7 Live View, Always-Connected Dash Cam

I purchased this from Amazon a few days ago as well as the Constant Power Cable. So far, I'm loving it. I subscribed and connected it to LTE service through Garmin for $10 a month for 7 days of saved video. It's then connected to the OBDII port using the Constant Power Cable. Over three nights of testing, I've been able to remotely connect to the dash cam to view the live feed perfectly. At work, it successfully sent me a notification of an event and uploaded the event video to the cloud a minute later. This leads to the one downside. This dash cam does not have a rear camera which is really lame. Nothing occurred in the front view video so I assume that, being in a parking garage, the vibrations of a passing car set it off. If so, it's annoying that I didn't have a rear camera to see the event but I am happy with the fact that the camera is sensitive enough to pick that up. However, you can purchase one of their Mini cams for about $130 and route it into the Constant Power Cable as it has two USB ports on it. You will not get live parking mode alerts with that camera unless your vehicle is within range of your WiFi network. If you live in an apartment and park 50-80 yards from your building like me and want live parking mode alerts with your rear camera, you'll need a 2nd Dash Cam Live and a 2nd $10 a month subscription. I'll be doing one or the other but most likely just purchasing a 2nd Live cam to get the full power of the system. With competitors LTE cameras you're paying $600+ so you're really only paying maybe $100-200 more or even less considering how you power the device. I was set on getting a BlackVue LTE camera but the reviews of the app have been really bad - like unusable in some cases so I opted for the rock solid interface of the Garmin. The BlackVue ones start at $470, with a $11 a month LTE subscription but if you want the parking mode, you need to hardwire it to the battery (which I'd never want to do) or get one of their battery packs which are $160-$390. The power of this camera is that you have LTE service with parking mode alerts and video upload. If somebody were to try stealing your wheels in the middle of the night, you get an alert. If somebody breaks your window and steals stuff in your car, you'll get an alert as well as a video uploaded to the cloud in the case that they remove your SD card or steal the camera altogether. If somebody steals your car, and doesn't remove the camera, you have GPS tracking. If you need to check anything, you can turn on the Live View etc. Setup and installation was a breeze - took an hour including routing the cable through the rubber gaskets around the door and floor. There isn't much more to say right now other than a few things I learned through my chat with support and reading manuals: 1 - The Garmin knows to enter parking mode through the OBDII port diagnostics. 2 - When using parking mode, KEEP THE APP OPEN but in the background! Otherwise it doesn't send notifications. 3 - When in parking mode, it isn't constantly recording and draining power. If an event occurs (a vibrational incident), then the camera starts filming and records/uploads the event. 4 - The Constant Power Cable can be switched between operating for 10m, 24 hours or infinitely. I do really wish it had a 12 hour setting here to cover the night time/sleeping only. It's silly that there isn't a 12 hour option or one between 10m and 24 hours. 5 - The Constant Power Cable has battery voltage protection so it won't drain your battery to nothing. It will shut off after 10 minutes if it detects the battery is under 12v.

Cannot connect to camera when car is turned off. Ridiculous product where you spend 400$ on dash cam, 50$ on garmin obd cable and main advertised feature plain does not work. Whenever it works and I can connect half the video screen is purple another half is unrecognizable blur. Did not identify and record my test clap on the hood right in front of it. Was able to establish connection only in first 15-30 minutes of parked car. Camera quality is terrible - car plates right in front of it are unreadable in day. Amazon has at least two cameras for 250$ price. LTE connection is stable - can make FaceTime calls alright from these locations in Austin TX. Returning this nonsense, waste of my time

For the cost I hoped to feel a bit more satisfied by the quality. Choppy video when you zoom in, so you can't read license plates, takes a while to connect and I had to use a mobile power bank to keep it on. The hook up with the always on power cable would not in fact keep it on. Overall it's ok and I'm invested into garmin now including 2 subscriptions for storage at $20 a month. Consider that going with this camera will most likely disappoint, but it's still good quality.

Love it. Vault storage for each separate camera is a little much but that’s not a reflection of the individual product. The video quality is really good and it’s pretty easy to use. We liked it so much that after I bought it for my truck, we bought it for all the other cars too.

I was excited to have a Garmin made dashcam with the feature of always-on cellular. Having just had a wonderful product in the Ring Car Cam that recently died and is no longer available, I found that feature invaluable for monitoring disturbances around my vehicle, and controlling all aspects of the camera, including automatically uploading all video to the cloud. Unfortunately, this was not the reality with this product. No, it only sends "incidents" to the cloud (like an accident) using cellular, but all other disturbances are only recorded to the SD card. The biggest issue is that the alerting and notification functionality is isolated as well, only alerting you when it is a severe incident, and "the driver might be incapacitated". This means that if someone is checking out your car, or even trying the doors, it will be recorded to SD, but you won't even know that it happened, as there is no notification that it recorded something. As well, you can only view the incident on the SD when using the app and connected to bluetooth of the dashcam. In addition, only certain features of the dashcam can be setup that way, and others have to use the dashcam settings. This, with no rear camera is why I recommend that you steer clear of this product. Too bad, they have the technical pieces to have a great product, but not the functionality.

Easypeasy IDk, why most y’all expect lte act as a 5g, if you can’t take today go for it tomorrow be realistic it’s not IP cameras 24/7 to watch weather effects signal I didn’t see any issues with the app it’s friendly at each corner pretty straightforward not confusing I consider this a first step review I may leave another comment regarding the reliability of this particular dash cam in near future.

Works but the LTE doesn't connect sometimes. When it is connecting, it works really well.

This is a great camera, especially with the LTE capabilities. You couldn’t see your car from anywhere I think the only downfall is they should really come out with a rear camera other than that well worth it.

with paid LTE subscription, the app is supposed to connect to dash cam live device for parking monitoring and live view options. Vehicle left house after complete setup and updates, no connection to device. I checked user manual, support site, FAQ, all phone and app settings are correct. Of note, I added a mini 3 for rear, but of course Garmin wants another subscription service to connect the rear camera in addition to the front camera. total 34$/month, does not connect. Garmin support agent had no insight over the phone but said someone will call back in 24-48 hours.

Good dash cam

This is a good high quality camera with great video. I love that the incident videos are automatically uploaded via my wifi network as I approach my house. However, the live video function does not work no matter how strong the LTE or wifi signal is. Your phone literally has to be within feet of the unit in order for it to work. All other "live" functions work just not live video.

Hello, I am leaving full time inside my Mitsubishi rvr for 5 yeards now. I made this choice of camera for have full acces to my camera in anny time, occasion, from anywhere. Whend i go for haking or camping, or i left my car alone in middle of no where, i weel like to no if all my setup are secure and safe. This camera made my home car more safe.
