Bob Ross R62GESSO-50 White Gesso 16 fl. oz. (473ml)

This product is a bit pricey but worth it. I have used it to cover old painted canvases and it only took one coat. I've used other acrylic gesso that took 2 and 3 coats. It leaves the surface of the canvas in excellent shape for more paint. Dries quickly too.

I use this as a primer

This is a good quality gesso that covers well and dries smoothly, providing a good painting surface. I like the dispensing bottle which makes for quick cleanup and storage.

As I said, i am a first time user of Gesso, and only painted 10+ Bob Ross style paintings on pre-primed canvas before. Wondering if it was a lack of proper canvas priming, or the quality of the paints, or the … (insert excuse here for why your painting isn't PERFECT). I got this, and another bottle from a reputable brand name and decided to compare the two in the process of learning the benefits of using either prior to oil-painting...The Bob Ross gesso I got was very thick, and "lumpy", almost like a heavily curdled milk (without the nasty smell!), but it applied well and left a nice thick coat! I honestly liked the thought of it being more like a plaster than a liquid paint primer. The other brand also provided a very nice primed layer, but it was very thin … as in very liquid like, milk consistency! In the end they both primed very well, as expected, but the BR gesso felt like it left a better, thicker, chalkier layer of paint...Now to paint on them and adjust my review accordingly ;)Here is where it gets weird though, a day later I get a bottle of my BLACK Bob Ross gesso … and the consistency is completely different then either of my previous two whites.

I use this as an initial cover on my canvas for wet on wet oil painting but I also use it to thin out my lighter colors instead of thinner sometimes.Works like a charm and this size bottle will last me a few months.

I enjoy this gesso there is hardly a smell at all, and the coverage is great, I like that the gesso is medium thickness, which means you can thin it down. The benefit is you only have to use one layer. will only use this gesso now.

I have found all Bon ross products to be of a high quality and that makes the end product so much easier to accomplish little expensive, but you only get what you pay for
