Not for digital artists
I bought this thinking it was aimed at digital art. I don't know what gave me that impression, perhaps just the look of it - the artwork looks digital to me. Anyhoo, I wanted to get tips for colouring and composition. This book is aimed at traditional art, so the tools used are ink, pencils, paper etc, and provides step by step guides for a selection of specific images. So it doesn't really provide general tips for your own artwork which is what I wanted it for. However, if you are a complete beginner and want a step by step tutorial to copy the specific artwork featured, then of course this book teaches you how to do this. There is one pic right at the end which is created digitally, but out of the entire book, it only comprises of a couple of pages. I didn't find this to be a reference book for general hints and tips, but a specific guide to copying specific pictures using traditional media. Good for what it does, but I misunderstood what it did do until I received it.

An amazing book that taught me more!
An amazing book with so much information! It's extremely helpful and full of tips and hits your art teachers never told you in college & GCSE years! You learn how to use watercolours, certain marker pens & so much more! I even used it in my first year of college (got the highest grade given that year) which as much as the examiners don't like 'anime/manga' style I did however apply the tips and tutorials in the book to my sketchbook.I wouldn't recommend it to people who haven't ever drawn people or done art classes that include life drawing; this is due to the terminology and anatomy practices being new to them.If you were to buy this book as a beginner, I'd recommend you reading Art Fundamentals sold by Beloeil first; this will help you understand anatomy of the human body and how to draw properly. I'd then consider buying this product as you'd have more knowledge and practice in drawing! Then again it all depends on how you learn as a person!I really do hope that my comment has helped you understand how useful and amazing the book is!

Great guide but Not for Beginners.
This guide is a lifesaver for someone who is good at drawing but struggling with painting. I am not using photoshop but Manga Studio 4 and I still managed to pull off similar results to what has been done in the book. However, on this note I DO NOT recommend this book for beginners to be honest. Sure it can teach a few tricks on how to draw faces and body etc...but it lacks in depths and a beginner would quickly feel lost. It is a great guide for amateur or level slightly above, but beginners I would recommend Mastering Manga by Mark Crilley. Then obviously if you wish to level up, buy this book.

A Beautiful Book - for the aspiring artist or the Manga art lover
This beautifully illustrated book works magnificently on a number of levels. For the aspiring Manga artist it provides a simple, step by step guide on how to draw wonderful Manga images, for the more experienced artist it provides a wealth of insider tips on the use of computer coloring and advanced techniques. For the advanced artist it provides a list of useful website links to the gallery of other artists and, for those who just love Manga, an array of fantastic artwork - both in the book and on the galleries suggested at the end of various chapters. A work of art in itself!

Great book. very well written.
I love this book. Not a fan of manga, i was surprised by this book. The advice is sound and workable and dependable. This is great instruction. Not simply for manga but all forms of drawing and design. In this book, manga reaches up and away from the usual, and it makes surprising reading. Any book on art ultimately comes down to the artist holding the pencil, how much drawing they do, how hard they work and there is no magic that can replace that. This book though does offer plenty to tips and tricks to help an artist along and into what ever direction their art takes them.

Great if you know how to draw even a little bit.
"Beginner's guide" well this just insults me because I am underneath even this level. but no i can tell this is a book for people who maybe can draw in real life but first time doing it digitally which is fair enough, its a great book and as soon as I can master things like wrist movement and stuff I am sure i will enjoy this book a lot more.

Totally manga
I would recommend this to budding manga artists/ fans and artists in general. The tutorials are clear, covering both digital & traditional skills. The images are beautiful, and the book comes in its own protective case. You could easily pay a lot for a book like this. A must have for everyone.

there are plenty of better tutorial online and even better books about
Nothing really special inside,in fact, many of the artworks presented in the tutorial section are just "good", only the artworks gallery at the end contains quality artworks. I dont suggest this book, there are plenty of better tutorial online and even better books about manga
