Anne Of Green Gables [DVD]

How can I review such a wonderful film and do it justice...? This was a favourite as a young girl and as I hadn't seen it for many years I treated myself to it when I came across it. I was worried it would not live up to be as wonderful as I remembered it - but it was every bit! The acting is superb and talent will never date. The story of an orphan girl who desperately wants a home and family will make you laugh and cry. I won't ruin it by listing favourite scenes, you should watch and see for yourself.The lead cast are faultless, the lovely Richard Farnsworth was perfect as Matthew and Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla that these 2 made the film for me - and of course the exquisite Megan Follows as Anne. I don't think anyone could have played these roles any better. Oh and the soundtrack is perfect too - the piece when Matthew takes Anne back on the cart to Green Gables is stunning and is peppered throughout the film and is a real tearjerker.This film opens up your heart and is set in beautiful Canada to make it even more enchanting to watch - it is definitely the only film I could watch again and again. I thoroughly recommend anyone to see this - you definitely won't be disappointed. Looking forward to the Sequel now which I know is also brilliant and haven't seen for many years.

I have been wanting to replace an old and damaged VHS version of this classic epic for some time, as it is many years since my wife and I have seen the film. Although it is essentially regarded as a children's story, it is eminently suitable for any age and sex - yes, even an old romantic male! - and we are both thoroughly delighted with this purchase. The story line, and Anne's ups and downs, has been described endless numbers of times, but this is still a film to watch over and over again with continuing enjoyment.The quality of this restored version is perfect, but I wonder why a double-sided disc? Although I have previously only come across a few, I personally find these more susceptible to scratching and difficult to handle without leaving finger marks when pressing the disc back into the case. Two single discs would have been preferable (perhaps, though, it is a question of economy or something to do with the disc being region 0 rather than 2), but this is a personal preference and in no way detracts from the pleasure given by the film.I am now looking to purchase "the Sequel", although I see that several earlier reviews report poor quality reproduction and 'out-of-sync' sound and vision. Hopefully, any such problems will now have been 'ironed-out'.

Was bought as a Christmas gift for sister, Unfortunately does not play on her DVD player properly although I got it to play on my laptop so unsure what to do as she does not have laptop

I first watched this movie when I was a young girl growing up in Canada. I think it is a right of passage for young Canadian girls. I remember watching Anne of Green Gables day in and day out for months. I am sure I've seen it at least 100 times. I've read the books and I also watched the spin off series Road to Avonlea on telly every sunday night at 7pm with my mom. I don't know anyone who has seen Anne of Green Gables who hasn't thoroughly enjoyed it. Great acting, great music, great scenery but most of all it stemmed from a fantastic book. I've got a young daughter who is absolutely glued to it and it is lovely to see that a book and movie that I loved as a child is now being loved by my daughter. I highly recommend Anne of Green Gables to everyone. Absolutely fab!!!

After a couple of years searching for this 1st part of the AOGG trilogy in uk & in region 2 I finally got it! Thank you for stocking this film old as it may be it's a classic and my favourite childhood movie.. I remember watching it on TV and had the VHS tape version but they wore out so now I have added to my collection of the sequel and continuing story I have the complete series. Sound & picture quality is perfect. Thank you I am very grateful.

I'm very dissapointed the film doesn't come with subtitles either in English or French or Spanish as it says in the photo of the film's cover when I bought it.

Montgomery's books are so delightful and despite being set some 100 years ago, the concerns and hopes of girls then still have relevance today. I was glued to the series in the eighties and was keen to have it on video but decided to wait until it was put on DVD. My patience was rewarded and this time I sat and watched it with my daughter, it had lost none of its original magic. Megan Follows is just perfect as Anne with an "e" and is quite exceptionally talented with a natural gift for comic timing and melodrama. The only thing that disappoints slightly is that apart from a director's commentary and showing Megan Follows' audition - there are no extras on the DVD as we have come to expect these days. The foreign languages included does NOT include German, strangely since it was made together with the German channel ZDF. I highly recommend it - even my husband and son enjoyed it. We're are looking forward to seeing the sequel.

This is an excellent production, very true to the book and is to be thoroughly recommended. Megan Follows as Anne is perfect for the part. the DVD shows the sadness of what must have been the life of an orphan in those days followed by the joy of actually being wanted at Green Gables. It is a delightfully clean story whilst at the same time retaining humanity. No wonder it has been read by Tibetan monks and prime ministers!

We bought the set for our daughter for Christmas, she is 48. She is enjoying the movies now with her young adult daughters. I look forward to watching them soon too! We have always loved that series of movies. I’m 78 and I feel we are never to old to love and enjoy these books and movies!!

Endlich ist Anne auf DVD zu erleben. Leider ist es die deutsche Fassung noch nicht auf DVD, aber ich hoffe, dass sich dieses noch änern wird.Die DVD ist zwar mit wenig Extras ausgestattet, aber dafür sehr Informativ.Wer meint sich die DVD nicht holen zu müssen, weil er kein Englisch (mehr) kann liegt falsch! Die Texte sind leicht verständlich und man kommt mit seinem Schulenglisch hin. Auch für Kinder ist dies eine gute Übung.Die Bildqualität ist auch optimal, wenn man bedenkt, dass die Serie ja über 15 Jahre alt ist.Jeder der Anne kennt wird sie lieben. Jeder der sie noch nicht kennt wird muss sie einfach kennen lernen!Hier eine kleine Angabe zum Inhalt:Anne Shirly ist ein armes Waisenmädchen, die von einer Familie in die nächste geschoben wird. Eines Tages kommt sie durch eine Verwechslung nach Prince Adward Island nach Avonlea zu Marilla & Matthew Cuthbert. Dort wird sie nach anfänglichen (lustigen) Schwierigkeiten herzlich aufgenommen. Anne macht viele Dummheiten, wenn es um ihre Haare oder Gilbert Blyte geht. Jedoch schafft dieses unscheinbare Mädchen die Herzen aller im Sturm zu erobern. Anne ist sehr klug, so dass sie durch Fleiß ihr Lehrstudium zusammen mit Gilbert Blyte als Beste abschließt.Mehr möchte ich nicht verraten. Wer die Geschichte kennt wird süchtig danach! Ich hoffe, dass es bald nochmal die deutsche Version irgendwie zu sehen gibt.Auch den zweiten Teil von Anne sollte man nicht verpassen!!!

I remember watching these movies with my dad. Now I can watch them with my daughter.

Zuerst war ich ein bischen skeptisch, da ich nicht so gut Englisch spreche.. Als ich die DVD mir ansah kam ich mir vor als hätte jemand ein paar Jahre zurück gedreht und ich sitzte als kleines Kind vor dem Fernseher. Es ist einfach eine wundervolle Serie.. Kann diese DVD jedem nur empfehlen... Die Sprachprobleme blieben größtenteils aus, da das Englisch sehr gut gesprochen wird und man es versteht.. Finde es nur schade, dass es diese Serie nicht auf deutsch gibt.. Im ZDF wurde sie ja auf deutsch ausgestrahlt aber die verlangen ein Vermögen für die Deutsche Fassung...
