Review: Decent size, easy to clean, but watch your fingers! - A lot of box graters I've had in the past sit directly on the work surface when you are using them, so when grating your (un)reasonable amount of cheese they get clogged up pretty quickly because as the gratings have nowhere to go but stay on the inside of the grater. The Microplane 4-Sided Box Grater is quite a lot better because it is that bit larger, and has little legs on the bottom to keep it off the work surface so the gratings don't accumulate. Easier to clean than most graters because one of the sides of the grater comes off. I don't have huge hands, but I find it difficult to clean the inside of most other graters. The Microplane 4-Sided Box Grater is marketed as being "razor sharp", and I assure you this is not just marketing fluff. It really is. It makes grating pretty much everything an absolute doddle. But the downside is that it is very efficient at also grating your fingers! It does come with a hard plastic protective sleeve so at least you don't catch yourself on it rummaging in the cupboard, but I definitely recommend getting some sort of mesh/safety glove because it will only be a matter of time before you catch yourself on it! Overall, pretty hard to fault!

**Q: are the blades replaceable ?**
A: No. In my experience, though, the blades will out last the plastic that surrounds them. After a really bad experience, I went back to an all-stainless box grater: http://smile.amazon.com/Browne-Foodservice-746124-Box-Type-Grater/dp/B0000DE1JK/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&qid=1426474570&sr=8-34&keywords=box+grater. Not as razor sharp as Microplane blades, but more than adequate and won't crack and break in the dishwasher.

**Q: What's the best way to clean if you don't have dishwasher?**
A: Personally I prefer individual tools to this four-sided one, because it’s so hard to clean. 
When I had the tool you asked about… Immediately after using, shake/brush off any loose pieces on the tool. Then soak in warm, sudsy water. Rinse and use a fairly strong brush to scrub off any remains. Repeat if necessary. 

Personally I prefer individual tools versus the four-sided one. It’s tough to clean.

**Q: How thick are the slices made by the slicing blade?**
A: The slicing blade cuts fairly thin. I'd say approx. 1/16" thickness. It's very good for shaving carrots, radishes, parmesan cheese, etc. for salads. Be sure to wear special gloves to protect your knuckles.

**Q: why does the plastic housing break and what is the company doing about it ?**
A: I have had mine for a number of years with ho problem however I did have an issue with another item…a hand held grater with a plastic edging that cracked & they replaced it with an all metal one with no problem. I offered to send them the broken one & they said "no, just toss it" so I did. I found them to be quite easy to deal with & would not hesitate to contact them again if I should have an other issues.

A lot of box graters I've had in the past sit directly on the work surface when you are using them, so when grating your (un)reasonable amount of cheese they get clogged up pretty quickly because as the gratings have nowhere to go but stay on the inside of the grater. The Microplane 4-Sided Box Grater is quite a lot better because it is that bit larger, and has little legs on the bottom to keep it off the work surface so the gratings don't accumulate. Easier to clean than most graters because one of the sides of the grater comes off. I don't have huge hands, but I find it difficult to clean the inside of most other graters. Bought to replace. Previous Microplane grater Which basically fell apart with the plastic bits breaking. We never realised until we got the new one that one of the sides is removable for easier cleaning, DOH.
